So, being all grown up and all, and since I'm getting married, I decided it was time to trade in my Mazdaspeed Miata and my WRX on a 2009 Forester.
We found the perfect Forester at the perfect price at Albany Subaru, so we decided to see what we can do.
All went well, until the trade-in.......
My 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata, LOW Blue book value: $11,800
They offered me $7500
But that's nothing...
My 2002 WRX, LOW Blue Book, $6200....
They offered me.......
$1500.
YES, FIFTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS.
FUUUUUUCK YOUUUUUUUU!
Albany Subaru can eff off.

Does this surprise you, Will?
This isn't just Albany, this is EVERY dealer... You will get raped on ANY trade in at ANY dealer, its simply how it works. Why would they buy your car from you at low blue book? You know how dealers are, they wont do ANYTHING unless they are going to benefit GREATLY... They buy your car for $1500 and sell it for $8,000, even more then blue book!
They can sit on cars for a long long time, which private sellers cannot, and they know people will buy the cars.
People are stupid enough to trade their cars in instead of selling them prior to buying a new car... Why? Because people are LAZY and don't want to take the time to sell their car, so they just dump it off at the dealer regardless of how little they offer you.
I'm surprised this is news to you, Will... Dealers are notorious for this kind of crap.
Live and learn!
(Sell your cars privately and use the money as a down payment, yes it requires some work, but it will save you $$$$$$$$$$$$, you're jewish, right? You should know all about this!)

Albay subaru also carry Ford. Still asking 20,000 over msrp on 2009 gt500 shelby mustang. I went their last Fri to check out new Stang and GT500. Many places are only asking invoice price on gt500 lately since new GT500 is due. I just laugh at the sales person. It's almost like they are on drugs.

you know trade in value is part of the negotiating process, right?
negotiate trade in up, negotiate new car down, never take first offer at face value. or, just tell them that you're not there to spend all day screwing around, but will jump on a fair deal quickly.
