Adios KSJO! Adios Rock!

I remember from my earliest years of living in the Bay Area that KSJO meant "ROCK", hard rock at that. Well, that's no more. Truly the station's programming has really sucked lately and supposedly so has its management in general. If you tune to 92.3 since 7pm last night you will get musica mexicana... yep, that's right, good ol' mexican polka. 1/3 of the Bay Area is of Mexican or other Latino blood these days, why not, eh? Besides, about 98% of new rock is crap these days. No more KSAN (as the real classic rock station it was) and no more KSJO. Now its up to the odd mixes of KFRC and The Bone.

Here's the Bay Area Rock History Trivia Question Of The Month:

What format was KSAN before it played classic rock?

Country I believe. Son of a *****... I hope this is a prank. I love KSJO; I mean I won't listen to their morning show ever since they got rid of first Lamont n Tonelli, and then even Mikey and his crew, but the music was still decent. Better than Mexican Polka anyway for Christ's sake! Damn, plz. let this be a joke.

Also, FWIW, the "Metro" magazine in the San Jose Area called this one (KSJO going Spanish) about a month ago. Of course, when asked at that time Clear Channel and KSJO denied it

KSAN was a 70's radio station before it went to the excellent Bone classic rock programming. They had the redhead DJ Darian Otoole who got kicked off the air for making remarks about her bus signs appealing to necrophiliacs.

Yupp. The Bone, whose music I'm not AS big a fan of, but as I continue to get older and older more and more of my favorites are becoming 'classic rock' so it's only a matter of time before it becomes another favorite of mine.

Anyone else feeling ancient when Metallica songs from the Black album get played on the Bone? I was in the ****ing 8th grade when that TAPE came out. Tape?! WTF?! LoL

Ooooh my aching boooones.

Yep, KSAN was country (then classic rock, then the Bone).

It was nice way back in the day because KSJO was committed to real rock, metal, and some of the less whiny grunge/garage type stuff. KSAN was playing all the classic stuff you love, like zepplin to cream to sababth to the moody blues. KFRC was still pretty much playing only 50s and early to mid 60s. The lines were clear and you could switch to what you like.

Lately KSJO has been playing all sorts of crap that belongs on 105.3 and, I know some of you like it, but the shows have been getting dumber and dumber. The Mikey Show got more retarded as time went on. They tried to hard to be like the Howard Stern show, but they just don't have the chemistry or the style. Oh, and more commercials than music I think. I just basically stopped switching to KSJO because 9 out of 10 times there was no music.

Now with the KSAN being the only rock-ish station around they will try to please the whole spread of this radio-homeless crowd and it will just get worse for everyone.

Thank God for MP3s and car decks that play them.

Yea I found this out yesterday while driving around, I thought they were doing a prank or something.

Then I tune in at night and all I hear is a horrible wailing noise with a guitar in the background, I hate musica mexicana. And I have to listen to the radio cause I can't afford CD's

My "in the house" XM is a first generation SkyFi unit....no clock either . Although I am probably one of the few folks with a GREEN backlit SkyFi : yes, changed out all of those TINY LEDs on the board .

They just came out with a "Second Gen" SkyFi that is pretty sweet! Basically, it can act as an "XM Tivo" for lack of a better word! Not sure if it also has a clock, but if it does then it might be going on the Christmas wish list.
