well i can say if you have a 5M and use it and just dump the clutch and not ride the **** out of it. I would say you have a 98% chance of snapping your entire drive-train your first time out...
if I used launch control I would ride the **** out of my clutch to avoid shattering everything off the line.
on second thought... I could just side step the clutch, and shatter all my axles/driveshaft and it would give me a good excuse to buy stronger ones

then again, if it's like the 2step on my old honda, you could set it so it holds a certain RPM for a certain amount of time after the clutch has been released so as to minimize the stress on the drivetrain...
Personally if you are going to use the launch control you might want to consider something else beside RA gear set. A straight cut 1-3 and the helical 4,5 might be a better option. More expensive but much stronger where you need it.

The cost to buy a 6 and all of the components to go with it is much more expensive than a a beefed up 5spd. The 5spd should hold up well by ******* 1-3. In high torque application it is the deflection that kills the gears. The straight cut won't deflect as much

for a moderate drag racer IMO it's not worth it. Most people will benefit far more just by practicing at the strip. Two-Step aka Launch Control is better for the big turbo'd people who can't really build any form of boost in first gear, and are trying to shave off every tenth they can where ever they can

Yeh, I dunno, after driving the 5 and the 6, I like the 6 muuuuuch better, cept I wish I could get 07 gearing so I don't have to go to 5th for the quarter. But yeah, it is much more expensive...

I mean, is it even needed...I already cut a 1.7 60ft on the STi...

-10 of vacuum would be 10 of boost, you mean either -10 boost or 10 vacuum...
For the brief amount of time I had the RA gearset in my car, I was a very happy camper. The OD could have been a little more fuel efficient, but over all having a longer 1st gear helped ease a little of the driveline shock and an overall closer gear ratio from that point onward made the car an absolute ball to drive. RPMs stayed high so boost was always available, even with a 20g. Although I knew at some point if I were to continue to run it the RA set would eventually fail. Again it's not the gears, it's the deflection in the shaft because of the crap casing the 5MT sits in.

yeh, after all the crap I've been through with my cars, I'd much rather spend the money on something I know is gonna stand up to the power than skimp and know I'll have to do more work later. I've learned a lot from the 79 Chevy, 2 Civics (1 turbo'd), IS300, and the 2 Subys...
But man...it feels sooooo good to be stock! Not have to worry about a thing...have a freakin warranty...makes me feel all warm inside.
