About to do a trunk swap.
Do I need a third brake light? I went to the DMV website and tried searching for anything about the third brake light. Can somebody help me out?

hmm, after reading some searches, it sounds like it's a federally mandated thing to have one from the factory, apparently no state has it in the law books that you have to leave it on there...I dunno, I want it there, so some jackass in a lifted truck doesn't come plowing into me from behind one day...all cuz I was too lay to install a new one after a wingless trunk install...
im sure you can make it work. just make sure that when you tap into the break light lines. its the ones that only turn on when you step on the break. thats what i had to do when i got a STi wing with thebreak light. now i have 4:character00121:

in short you swap deck lids as well. That gives you the center brake light and you are good to go.
BTW you will not need to tap in to any lines. If you look there is a disconnect plug in your trunk. Look at the center of the deck lid from inside the trunk. You'll see a plug clearly disconnected, the light plugs in there.
