AAS Autox events 5/18 & 5/19 at Marina

Since this Sunday's SFR SCCA autox event was canceled due to the Warriors, I thought I'd post about another autox that will happen this month. The American Autox Series (AAS) is having two autox events on 5/18 and 5/19 at Marina Municipal Airport. AAS is another great group and their courses are fun and fast. No membership is required to participate at AAS events. It's $40 and you ususally get 5 runs. Registration generally opens at 8:00am and is open all day Saturday and closes at 1:00pm on Sundays.

Here's their website to find all the information: American Auto-X Series LLC | Home

Debating this... I really just want to drive!

Do you know what their policy is on double and triple drivers?

It should be the same policy as SFR events, at least for double drivers. I'm sure triple drivers would be okay.

No pre-reg required. You register at the event.

I'll probably only do one of the AAS events. I haven't decided yet.

GGLC courses tend to be very narrow and tight (only beneficial for Lotus cars) and look like a field of cones, at least that's how I feel. AAS courses are generally more open, faster (speed wise), and try to go with a minimalist approach to cones. There's more than enough cones to see where you're going, though, and pointer cones are yellow.

How do I find a cheap helmet? Should it be Snell 2010? What helmets do all of you guys run with?

AAS does have a few loaner helmets. The helmet needs to be Snell approved. If you want to participate with other groups get the newest Snell approved helmet, but Snell 2000 helmets are still good until the Snell 2015 helmets become available. As for where to get a cheap one I'd look at motorcycle stores or online stores. Look for helmets going on clearance. Or look at classifieds for people selling used helmets.

Since the snell 2000s are barely being phased out how much longer does the 2005 have? I thought they were only good for 10 years?
