I have no problem with acknowledgment of these dates in our history, but the way they're celebrated is retarded. They're just another excuse for people to drink/eat/whatever without any real understanding of why they're doing it.

This isn't limited to today's date either, before the 'stop picking on Mexicans' card gets pulled.

real story:

Most people don't know that back in 1912 Hellman's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the "Titanic" was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after New York City.

Mexicans were crazy about the stuff.

The Mexican people were eagerly awaiting delivery and were disconsolate("desperados") at the loss. So much so that they declared a national day of mourning which they still observe today.

It is known, of course, as ...sinko de Mayo.

So, one of my roomies works for an afterschool program. Yesterday they were explaining the 'holiday' to the kids before they did some activities. One 8yr old broke out in tears, completely crying. Why? His response, "I'm French!" Then he hung his head and wouldn't listen to anything anyone else had to say. For that little 8-year-old it's apparently too soon. One of the funniest things I'd heard in a while. Thought I'd share.

I'm surprised they didn't send him home for being French.

Having no knowledge on the background of this, I'm going to go ahead and blame it on unions.

i dont "want" to use them to paint my house and clean my yard i dont care what race someone is. white black asain indian mexican doesnt matter. i dont seek out mexicans to do any sort of work. (except maybe make mexican food because white people suck at it) anyway... i dont have any problem with may 5th. half my family is mexican (from mexico) and its just a reg day there just like st. patties day is just another day in ireland. only you could say may 5th has a little more real significance because they stood up for their country.

I assume its because coors does not taste like anything its just like key stone it like water. Mexicans drink Budweiser in party's since its more expensive , and well bud light is the main choice since its cheap and has an o.k taste. But me being mexican i i cant stand any of those beers its all about Blue Moon
