no because then i would be putting down the Altezza (car) Altezzas have the right to have Altezza (their) tails. The EVO (comparable to the STi) was brought into the convo because its a cool car gone bad by stupid choices by the guy pressing the "start assembly line button" its not a big deal, they can be fixed with the red ones.

FMIC = new front bumper

.... anyways, it looks boring, but I've seen the GD bodies so many times, they look boring too, so it's a lateral move.

As for the Mazda 3 look-a-like comparisons... how many styles can you choose from with a 5 door hatch? Either way, it looks a lot cleaner than the last gen. The GD bodies looked like they took an average sedan and slapped on some fender flares, hood scoop, and spoiler and said "There, that'll make it sporty!"

discuss......

i just cant envision this shoe sliding around a gravel hairpin.

it does have +1 on the older wagons...
Old wagons= rambus rear window (looks like a sedan with window extension)
the '08= windows all one section like they should be in some cases.

i dont hate the thing, i just wish it was a sedan too.

yeah FMIC's gonna be a ****

Personally I will never tire of the GD body, especially the Bugeye. I LOVE the flared fenders and unique styling cues - don't think it will ever bore me. They look great from every view, and even though they have round front lights - everything is nicely integrated. I cannot stand the 04/05 front though - it does not match the car at all and is totally unacceptable unless fitted with JDM fogs. I actually prefer the 06/07 to the 04/05 front - and I think while it does look odd, it matches the rest of the body better.

I think the Mazda3 comparisons come from a few distinct cues shared such as the grille and front area, and the rear side windows. Someone compared it to the Matrix, but I don't see any comparison there while I totally do with the Mazda3.

Of course time will tell, but as far as this being a lateral move - I doubt it personally. This seems to me to be Subaru trying to get more business by appealing to a broader spectrum. They are in it to sell cars - not make friends. The new WRX most closely resembles (to me) the car's other competitors in the WRC which also all look like non-descript eggs.

One major question of mine is regarding the brakes. The USDM WRX finally got good brakes and now it looks like the '08 is back to teeny rotors w/ floating calipers. It will be nice to see the STi version, but at this point - I don't care that much. Still need to see one in person before making my final judgement - but so far it has me scratching my head and wondering if Subaru listens to it's customer base or did any research at all along the lines of what people want - the biggest thing that brings this question to me is the rear styling and the lights. The Altezza thing was a fad that I thought had died now except for the Prius... Guess not.

but it wouldn't be soo evo as the evo isn't the originator of that tail light.. the wrx would be copying the Altezza if anything...

Its statistcally proven that people who brag about certain parts are truely insecure with them

I agree entirely with this.... except I find myself overexposed to the GD bodies and the look is just wearing on me now. I'm not saying I don't like them anymore, but it's nothing like the first few months I saw them on the streets. But I couldn't agree more that the 04/05 front end just doesn't work and I prefer the pig nose to that design as well.

There have been some heated arguments on nabisco regarding this. Here's what I've gathered:

- People have received email replies from Subaru regarding the brakes on the 2008 WRX. They've posted that Subaru specificly stated the rotors/calipers are a direct carryover from the Legact GT.

On the other side people who were at the NY auto show have eyeballed the WRX in comparison to the Legacy R on display. And those people state that the 2008 WRX brakes are smaller than the Legacy R on display.

- People have complained about Suby going back to the sliding calper design. The argument here is that the LGT brakes would actually be an upgrade to the current 4/2 pot set up on the outgoing model. Although the 4/2 pot calipers provide a better brake "feel", they are still clamping on the same sized rotors as the 02-05 models.

If it is true that the LGT brakes will be the new equipment on the '08 WRX, the heat capacity (brake fade and wheel bearings also effected by this) and stoping force will still be an improvement over the current 4/2 pot design.

This is all my summary from people arguing on nabisco so take that for what it's worth.

Well if it's the LGT brakes, that is great. I don't have a problem with sliding/floating calipers in particular - it's just that a 4pot would be a definite improvement in functional design so it seemed weird to step back with no apparent purpose. Moving to the much superior (due to leverage and swept area rather than style of caliper IIRC) LGT brake setup would be great and show a purpose. It's just that the brakes in the pictures *look* very small, not unlike that of my old RS or the '02-'05 Impreza brakes. The LGT brakes are pretty huge and the difference between '02-'05 Impreza brakes and LGT brakes is almost instantly apparent.

Again, time will tell huh? LGT brakes would rock. Simple, cheap and good - nice combo. Maybe the Legacy R had different brakes??

Thanks for the info!!
