2004 STI with 38K miles - should I buy it? (was: Need help from BAIC!)

Hey guys..I have been looking for an STI for a while, Well I think I may have found it..2004 STI with 38K miles ONLY...The owner is a elderly gentlemen who one day stumbled upon a Vishnu Website and decided to go Stage 1 (EcuteK, TBE.Tuning etc..the car made 265hp/265trq on Vishnu Dyno..) Now he is in the process of selling his baby due to the economy and needs the cas!...

Everything checks out ok...I tried to pulling up service records I was not successful..but I was able to have a tech tell me it had the radiator replaced..Should I be worried? ( I posted a thread about help for this!)

But what I need help on is the 2004 Model itself, I know about the Shock Tower mount issue...any other issues?..I know about the seacrh button...But what I am looking for is the typical.."Yes" buy it and no worry response...And Advise..haha

ok.. u are going to have a 5x100 bolt pattern, which is either good or bad, depending on what ur going for.

the struts due to the fact that they are inverted struts, u have to regrease them often to keep them from knocking...

strut tower issue i have never heard of...???

I would guess if you read the original post, you MIGHT be able to come to a conclusion about your question. The key phrase here is "the car made 265hp/265trq on Vishnu Dyno", which to me would make me come to the conclusion that Shiv, the tuner for Vishnu, would have been tuning the vehicle, and that Vishnu would be the answer to your question.

Wink Vishnu Tuning

Just a heads up...Shiv tuned my 03 WRX and made 217 hp at the wheels, but the tune made my turbo run hot...Mike at GST retuned it and made more power and torque, and a lot less heat to the turbo...I would reccomed Mike at GST over anyone else...no bad things on Shiv's part but my turbo was running very hot...

Shiv and Mike have very different tuning styles. I think Mike likes his power lines more linear, smoother torque curve. From what I've seen, less boost, more timing is involved with his tuning. Shiv likes the HARD power hit, so he jacks up the boost, while not fooling around as much with the timing.

Plus, every car is different. Both tuners mentioned were unable to tune my car very well. However, both know their stuff, so the Vishnu tuned car should be a safe bet.

Have you gotten a CARFax on it yet? Only thing I can think of why a radiator would break from 38k miles is an accident...

I tried to get as much info from the dealer...they said the customer brought the car in for an oil change and saw a stress fracture on the radiatior..it was not leaking they chaged it because it was under warranty...they also changed the intercooler hose cause it was leaking..

04's are cool. great cars, and unrefined raw STis. There are "clunk killer" kits available to help fix the probelms with the rear clunk.
