Yup, that is true. So far, my insurance is doing a hella of a job. They're going to find out who owns the car and see if they have insurance. The thing that sucks is, is that if they do not have insurance, all they do is take the car away. You would think that there would be a more seriouse penaltly, but really there isn't much else they do.

who told you, you couldnt file a police report?

it is against the law to drive without insurance OR a drivers license...

i hope you took lots of pictures to document the event.

including the names of the shopping mall rent-a-cops...

Hey good idea! Step 1 is my insurance is going to track the lisence plate. If they ignore, or come back with no insurance then they pay my deductable, but I'm not sure what else happens to them.

Hopefully he does, if not that will be a PITA. Probably will have to sue the other party in order to get any money for damages.

I bought the car new, so I'm pretty sure I do have uninsured motorist coverage. You can only get full coverage when you buy a new car, which in my case I did buy it brand new. So I think I'm good.

Hopefully you do and it will take care of the damages for you. It just absolutely sucks how there is little recourse against these people who drive without a license or insurance.

If you need a shop - I get all my work done at Sunny Autobody in SF and know the owner personally - PM me if you need more info.

Good luck with everything bro.

Consider yourself lucky. I lost my car a couple months back due to an accident like this. The guy shot out of a parking lot without checking to see if it was clear, I was driving down the street doing like 30 when a pickup tries to jump out in front of me. Nothing I could do. This guy had no lisense, no insurance, no documentation, didn't speak english, and oh yea it wasn't his car either. My insurance is state farm and I have full coverage. Within 2 weeks I had a check for a new car. Luckily your accident is nowhere as bad as mine, but if you have a good insurance company they should take care of you.

See what Kreative Kustoms in San Jose can do. A lot of people on this board have gotten side skirts, bumpers, and all that jazz painted by them. It's a respectable body shop owned by good people.
