Your normalish family buys their kid a car. Now say the parents are driving a somewhat new lexus or something like that. They kid gets the hand me down toyota or if they're lucky they get a new civic or something like that.

Now you take your rich family. The parent are driving some $190,000 sports sedan and a $110 SUV or what not. That same family can afford to buy their kids what they want. Figure the kid wants and M3... they can afford it so why not. Finance wise that's the same as the normal people buying their kid a used import.
agreed

It just makes no sense regardless of financial standing to put your kids at risk because you want to impress the neighbors with what you can afford to buy your kids. Just another way to throw wealth around.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

Did no one learn anything from Nick Hogan?
well thats where the argument begins. To say that every (or any) 19 yr old put behind a powerful car would destroy something would be a fallacy. Not EVERY teenager does stupid stuff. I'm 18, put behind 224 ft lbs of torque, yet you don't see me totalling or putting others at risk. And theres a very fine line between putting your kids at risk and buying your kid a fast car, not knowing s/he drives like a maniac.

the suby and m3 are two totally different cars for one. So i can understanding teens owning a wrx, or even and sti. There are many in that category on this site. But when you step up to something like the m3, as perhaps your first car, then that's where it gets hairy.

As for getting the kid a sedan versus a sports car, well. there are tons of very fast sedans out there. the m3 comes in sedan form for instance.

Unfortunately you're everyday 18/19/20 yr old doesn't have the life experience to know what is an accident waiting to happen. This kid probably drove the car like a fool while he was alone, but stepped it up to impress some other little 18yr old brats and he could have killed everyone in that car with a stunt like that. That is where life experience comes into play.

I've had people in my car who desperately want me to get on it so they can see what she has, but I knew it wasn't the time or the place so I continued to drive like grandma while simply saying "yeah, it moves". 7 or 8 years ago I probably would have mashed the pedal to the floor and had a similar outcome, thankfully I was driving a 98 Golf 2.sl0w.

This kid deserves everything he gets, he needs to learn his lesson now. Hes really lucky no one was seriously hurt or he'd be learning that lesson behind bars.

haha subies have a little less power than that v8 m3...its a lot easier to mess up speeding when you got 400 ponies under your hood...

if i was 19 and my parents were like get any car you want, i dont think id spring for an 08 m3, shoot, that kid is greedy...

just like any of these road rage/stupid crashes threads, d-bags and dumbarses come in all shapes, size, color, from 19 year old to 35 year old whatever...

What a waste of a nice car. Not as bad as Nick Hogan's incident but still a good example of why 400+horses does not need to be in the hands of a teenager.

I know, my point is that not all younger people drive like d-bags, just the majority sadly...

haha reminds me of this one kid in sf was the son of some famous author and my brother would run into him at parties. in like 03-04 time he had an yukon, was coked out totalled it. mom bought him a new yukon or something and he totalled that too, and then after that he got another benz, the whole time with him havin coke binges showin up at parties, buyin loads of brew and booger sugar. cars might not be exact but pretty much the same story... im sure there are many more like him..

and yeah im 19 and i know i drive like a jerk sometimes, but i never ever do that lane dodging in street traffic...i dont cut anyone off unless they sittin in the left lane on the freeway doin 65, but ive stopped doing that because i drive the 80 and 880 and i dont want to have to outrun a scraper again..that was bad

That M3 makes a nice decorative piece on the front lawn. It reminds me of Missy Elliot's crib when she had a Ferrari as a bed. Guess this is the next level of MTV cribs

Too bad airbags don't auto-disable when they sense an idiot is driving.
