The denominations are 100ND, 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10000, 20000,and 50000. From what I gather there are 20,30 and 50 as well, but only a rare occasions did I ever even see a 50. There are no coins, it's all bills in Vietnam

My last trip in asia was hellish, I kept trying to do the calcs in my head, but after a few countries you get cloudy and end up with the wrong numbers, a calculator with stored exchange rates is the only way to go. I had to convert everything back to dollars so I could figure out how much I was spending. in 6 weeks, I went from $1:30ND(New Dollar) in Taiwan, to $1:8D(Dollar) in HK, to $1:2SD(Sing Dollar) in singapore, to about $1:4RM(ringget malay) in malaysia, $1:40TB(Thai Baht) in thailand, $1:4000R(riel) in Cambodia, 1:10000K(kip) in Laos, then finally to $1:15000ND(new dong), then back through laos, thailand, ending in Malaysia. My brain was fried from all of the different moneys.

Oh, and as was said, In vietnam you can get a bowl of Pho, a glass of juice, have enough for a tip and money left over for another drink for a buck (6 months ago)
