no, theres no practical reason to run tires that narrow on wheels that wide, they are barely sealed on their bead, can easily pop right off their bead if they hit a good sized pot hole. Its just some ricey thing they like to do.

thats cause you've never driven one.
that is a bit too much stretch (ok, way too much)
but, there is a practical reason to stretch the tire. If you stretch a little bit, it actually reduces tire roll over and sidewall flex. also getting anything wider the a 185 on that car can be hard. Alot of the wheels that have the correct offset to do that are wide, so people put narrow tires on it to make them fit.

heh, I knew someone would post this but I was too lazy to expand on it in my first reply
there is perhaps a slight (*slight*) advantage to running a one size narrower tire to decrease rollover and improve steering response, which has also been widely debated to be less desirable performance wise than getting the extra traction out of the larger tire. Regardless, that situation is about running one size narrower, which is hardly visually noticeable, though somehow it always comes up as the battle cry of every ricer who runs there 13" rim an inch out past there 175 width tires.

I know thats not not your cup of tea though

Kinda like all the under 1-year driver stickers were originally thought to have something to do with drifting....
