'08 FSXT or '08 STi
THe Forester Sport XT came in yesterday, woooot!!!! I haven't decided what to do.
I just bought a house, we are doing a fairly major retro fit, right off the bat. Money is going to be nice to have, car payment.... Not so nice. This is a good time to buy it outright with a trade in, but again the remodel has to happen.
I love wagons, my WRX was an addiction, if it wasn't for the intervention, it would have killed me too...
The FSXT is gorgeous, I have some sick suspension sitting in the garage, a line on some brakes, wheels are already sick, my APS TBE will bolt up. That and a little engine management; cherry...

'08 STi... EVerybody hates it, "what were they thinking?
" I love it.
I think the look is great and the Impreza on a Legacy chassi?. Pure sexors. The interior is killer, more brake horse power
, it's a hatch/short wagon,. I love this car too.
SO, break down:
Buy the Forester
Wait Buy the STi
Wait and compare
Don't buy anything. Drive the 1990 Legacy 'til the wheels fall off

well since ur doing hella work to ur house even though I think the forester looks great I personally feel you should wait for the new sti to come out. So at least you can compare cars and know what you really want. If you were to buy a forester and end up really liking the new sti you will be losing money. Just fix up ur house for now drive ur old car and keep the extra money in the bank. So when you finally compare cars and choose one, not only will you have a bigger down payment/or extra funds to mod the car your wife would probably be a lot happier too
Another thing you might want to try is since you already know ur set on getting a new car in the recent future pretend like ur making car payments already and put that money in like a time account or a liquid savings. For example wamu lets you deposit additional funds to a cd and the interest you get is at 5.45apy for 10 months. Not bad since hopefully the new sti should come out around that time. Ehh just a suggestion

+1! Wait for it!

I figure you have a couple options and both have their good points.
do it now while you have the wagon for trade. Get the forester...which is what I want anyways. You've got the parts for the forester.
OR.....
Since you have the parts anyways> Put the suspension on the legacy and just drive it for a while.
Sell the wagon outright. Stuff the money into a short term roll over account so you don't spend it and it's tax sheltered for this year.
Then next year wait to see if they bring the forester STI over. If not. Buy the Sti. You'll be happier in that anyways as it's closer to what you had. Do some simple mods...and by simple I mean exhaust, suspension. Engine management. That's it. And enjoy it.
If you can't honestly say that you can leave the new car at least somewhat stock then I'd suggest you buy yourself an L or a bugeye wagon and go ape**** with it. Use the legacy as a daily.
So that's my thoughts. We'll talk more over beer.

I say wait for the STi since its what you were trying to make with the '05. Mod the house, then buy the car and mod it, don't try to do both at once

I've got an 02 WRX Wagon and I'm also deciding between an 08 FSXT or 08 STI. I need a car which can carry a lot of cargo in the back so I'm waiting to see the 08 Impreza hatchback in person to compare the trunk size against my current car. I know the Forester has a lot of room, and it does look nice with all those STI bits, but at $5k+ less than an STI it doesn't have a 6 speed or all the other bells and whistles of an 08 (nicer interior, navigation option, etc.).
You could always get the FSXT now, put on the mods you already have, use the $5k you saved to help with the house, then upgrade the Forester when you have more $$.
