07 wrx - 2nd gear decel noise

Hey all,

Ive done some pretty lengthy searching regarding this issue both here at iclub and at nasioc but im still a little stumped.

When I'm in 2nd gear and I let off the gas around 3000-2000 rpms, there is this loudish decel noise that sounds kinda like a low siren.

Of what ive seen, some people claim this is normal but I just wanted to make sure. Ive already tried the trick of running 3-4 psi higher in the front tires but that didnt help at all.

Some of the posts mention a grating noise but im not getting that at all. Its just a steady decel noise that coincides with the engine braking. The moment i get back on the gas its gone. 3rd makes no sound i can hear and 1st does it too but not quite as loud as 2nd.

Any advice? Would synthetic tranny fluid quiet it down a bit? The car only has about 500 miles on it.

decell noise is very common in AWD subarus....

IF you think its abnormal come to a subie meet and take someone for a ride before taking it to the dealer.

hehe thanks for the reply. its not that big of a deal really. traffic in some parts cause me to have to crawl around in 2nd gear alot though and id like to get rid of the sound if possible... or just tone it down a bit. i wish the tire pressure thing worked for me ><

Isn't that just the tranny? You should hear how much noise the tranny makes on 350Zs...

What about a rattle noise when you release the throttle in gear? No mechanical problems, just the noise...

From what I've read under further searching, the winding noise is common.

not my first but the one before it was an auto so that doesnt count =D still trying to figure out what noises are normal and such =D

and yeah, ive read quite a bit about it too like ive mentioned above. heck it wouldnt even annoy me that much if it was constant but alot of the roads i drive on are broken up so if im on decel in 2nd gear and i go over rough terrain.... its more like "whirrrrr-rrrr--------rrrr--rrrrrrr-rrrrrrrrrrrr" lol
