the thing about most of America is that we do not have a public transportation system that works like Europe, and people in Europe don't usually use the car as primary mode of transportation; thus gas price is the way it is

edit: and also, Europe has higher grade gas than America

this might be a newb question but i always wondered this.
yknow how you get better mpg when ur in a higher gear, why dont car companies add a "economy" gear. so we could cruise around 75-80mph @ 2000rpm?

its called a corvette lol...0-50 in first gear, then go from 1st to 6th and cruis at 1500? lol

no but ive wondered that too...i put a 626 5th gear in my 323 GTX so it cruises at 80 at 3400 instead of 4000!

but yeah i never pass people in 5th gear, i always drop it to 4th, so yeah 5th should be cruising 80 at 2000 rpms and not 3500!

my miata is at 4000RPM at 80 and gets 21 MPG...but going 65 you get 31 MPG! weird huh.

my moms Scion XB sucks, it again does 4000 at 80...5000 at 100 i dont see why a 2004 car doesnt have 6 gears, especially a toyota

I'm not sure about those international gas prices, I was in England over Xmas and it was around $7.00 a gallon. I filled up my midsize hire car and it was nearly $85

God bless america ('s gas prices)

a European wrx and an American wrx will get almost the same mpg... however, they have a lot more small city cars (1000cc or less making like 70-100 hp)... kinda wish we had japanese engine size tax here in the states.... 660s for the win!

No, that's not weird, any smart person knows that you use more gas when you speed. This is why gas is expensive. No one cares that you get better gas mileage at 55-65mph. In CA Everyone still speeds and crusies at 75+mph. On my cross country drive, I cruised at 65mph with a fully packed car and still got more than 26mpg.

If you want to increase your mpg's, be more conscious of your driving habbits.

WHOA its not like it took me by surprise!? 10 MPG difference is enough of a difference to call it weird aka DAMN THATS A LOT. It didnt take me 300 miles of going 65mph to become smart lol i knew it would be a difference but not by that much.

My RS is 22 MPG at 80 and 26 at 65 only 4MPG difference aka meh id rather spend an extra 50 cents to save 15 minutes. Its like only an extra dollar to add 30 minutes to my day. I make $1 every 5 minutes so its worth it, and im a poor college student.
