Here's the deal. Installed a vf30 and MRT top mount yesterday took it for a test drive, spiked to like 30psi and the oil is turning white. my mechanic said it's a head gasket. Today we're putting it back to stock and bringing it to the dealership. My question is, will they know anything was done? and is there anything i need else to my car before i do this again (FYI i'm switching to an apexi electronic boost controller)

 

Dude you blew it up, you fix it, trying to trick SOA into fixing YOUR mistake just hurts the rest of us that have any warranty left.
Of course they will most likely just get tougher and tougher with warranty justification till they are popping the ecu's for a complete data-log so they don't get screwed. Sorry about the rant but it's BS to blow something up then be dishonest enough to claim warranty work.
Just my 02, on a lighter note that does suck and I hope things work out for the best.

 

Yes - the ECU has surely logged your 30 psi spike.

i understand wut you're saying, but my car has 7500 miles on it and i just bought all those parts from them. i've spent about $3,500 there in parts alone. So having them fix it under warranty is the least they can do, i've got a lot of money into it. Anyway they can prove i did something to the car? as in they wont warranty it? i mean everything is back to stock except exhaust,bov,and turbo timer.

 

this is why I have to defend my buisness everytime I go to the dealership...

 

i love it,come on now be realistic just about every single person in my shoes would do the same thing. The DEALERSHIP sold me the items, so i dunno where u and defending your company come into play (not to be rude)

your factory warranty is voided the moment you sign the paperwork

ask your dealer,

they told me the same thing about buying the sti optional exhaust,
does it do anything to the car - NO
does it void your warranty if you buy it from the dealer - YES

you just bought a vf-30 (not even an aftermarket type replacement part, a part requiring fuel management and a slew of other non-factory components) pretty much making the car a completely different vehicle by subaru's standards
and you expect the dealer to eat the cost of your ignorance

I'm sure they'll assume you purchased that IHI vf30 turbo and MRT top mount intercooler ,which just both happen to be spec'd specifically for the car you are bringing in with a blown motor, for the other wrx you own, not this one

when they take an airhose to your heads and coolant flies out the sides I'm sure they'll account that to the standard wear of the first 7500 miles of a car that you most defiantely never installed the performance parts you purchased from them on.

And I'm absoultely positive they will keep a straight face, and not crack a single "street racer" joke or say "You owe me five bucks, that was only 2 weeks, you said he'd blow it in 3"

 

I didn't mean to be to harsh, but just because they sold you the parts doesn't mean they are responsible for improper tuning or
installation.
You might as well try and get MRT to pay for it using that logic. The point is , you knew the risks going in right, that you would possibly be responsible for voiding you warranty? I have sypathy for you, believe me that sucks, but I'm sorry to say SOA has nothing and should have nothing to do with your problem.

 

Dealer called me today, they said they flushed the motor, put new oil and coolant. Runs fine, i guess 2 hoses were messed up when he installed the turbo. Everything is all good, paid $125 for an oil change, but no harm was done,back to normal.

Will Sti injectors,supra pump & regulator be sufficent?
Also, if i was to run stock computer and fuel isn't about 15.5psi the most i want to push until i get more fuel/chip?
p.s. going to install the turbo and intercooler in a couple days as soon as my mrt uppipe is in.
i guess they're the ones who made out.

haha sweet! the lines are classic! tons of folks do that! butusually its dicoed or loose and it just sprays on first start up.
So they had coolant and oil lines switched huh? Make sure thats entered somewhere so if you have probs in a while its documented.

 

I'm still disturbed. This guy ... he... "mechanic"? Who put this stuff into your car? How did he not know about switching the lines? Why are you putting in a bigger turbo before having 1. Engine management, 2. Fuel management, 3. less restrictive exhaust/uppipe/downpipe? Who is this guy putting performance parts on your car who isn't the dealer and ... ? Why don't you do a few things short of the turbo, until you have enough parts in that can make use of the turbo that it actually matters? You definitely should have some engine management/boost control and fuel management.

When this guy DOES blow his head gasket, or throw a rod, or bounce off a guard rail, I will proclaim that we are seeing natural selection at work. Not intended as a flame, but appreciation of the wonders of nature.

 

juz my .02 here but, i really think that the quality of subaru owners has gone down and the amount of civics in used car lots has gone up.

There is an even simpler answer here. When you remove the turbo on the WRX coolant has a tendancy to leak out of the coolant supply lines...which is right on top of the turbo oil return line. So coolant leaked into the Oil pan before start up. This is why I ALWAYS cover that up immidiately then change the oil before start up, especially with a NEW turbo.....You have now damaged all the bearing surfaces in the engine, because coolant wipes the surfaces....Most likely you won't be affected by this right away...but 30psi spike hurts things....
