Timing

My Turbo 2.2L 98 MAF is pulling timing, producing lumpy power. But only when the ECU senses a slight knock that I have from piston #4, retarding timing. What do you guys think the best way to disable, or better yet control knock without going full blown Link or Unitech is? Any suggestions would help. Thanks

Try a J&S Safeguard first. Should run you about $450. I think Teague's Auto has them, probably some of the other well known internet vendors too.

Also, check the compression on #4 in case you already ruined it. I was running some phase I 9.5:1 pistons machined for a phase II motor, and crushed #4 under very very high boost where I got a higher # of misfires on #4 after that.

Also, make sure it is the J&S that retards timing as boost rises, to prevent the ECU or the J&S from yanking 10-20 degrees of timing to stop detonation. Otherwise power will still surge and suck.
