Which shortblock?
I'm in the middle of going turbo with my 99 2.5 rs and it is going well so far. I have made plans to go ahead with my next project for my car and hope to get some good advice. While I'm driving my recently boosted 2.5 rs, I would like to buy a short block to build up. 2.2 or 2.5, closed deck or open deck, 2.2 bottom end with 99 2.5 head or any other combo that I can put my 2.5 rs head on? Which is the best setup? I plan on building a 2.2 or 2.5 turbo so if I blow my current setup I can replace it with a monster. Any suggestions with what the best year block, ltr size and internals for my 99 2.5rs? Once again, thanks for the advice.

The simple solution is an STi shortblock. They are $1575 shipped including gaskets, are capable of withstanding lots of hp, and work with SOHC EJ25 heads. I haven't seen what the exact compression ratios is, but it should fall somewhere between that of the STi and the RS (8.5-1 to 9.5-1).

Contact their parts department and ask for Brian. I belive they are sold out at the moment, but are getting more in. The price is $1575 shipped, including gaskets.
Whatever engine management you had planned will still work with the new block, it's just a lot tougher than the original.
