To Do or Not to do? That is the question

Actually I am pretty stoked to put a turbo unit in my vehicle.
I have a 02 2.5RS and mainly bought it over the WRX because I wanted something fun to do to it. And what better then to put a turbo in? Or at least thats what I thought...
Now I am a little spooked. Ive been told that installing units into these guys you risk blowing things alot quicker or just deteriorating things faster! So my question for the forum is this..
How long would I be able to go before having to replace seals and what not? I was thinking of boosting around 6psi to start out. And figured that wouldnt hurt it too much, would it?
What all does the maintence schedule look on the vehicle if I do put a turbo in it ?ie what can I expect to have to replace and aprox. how long down the road?
Hearing that installing a turbo makes the "reliablility" of the vehicle go down, what exactly does that mean? Are we talking haveing the vehicle just turn off or something while driving?
Im sure I have more questions But I figure this is a start!
Thanks to everyone who replys with a little more insight for me.
**this is based on installing of the AVO turbo kit with a front mount intercooler. (im hopeing)**

EJ25s are great motors as the come from the factory. But they don't respond well to turbocharging. It's very easy to make a simple mistake that results in a costly engine rebuild. If you can't afford to break your car or be without it while it's broken, don't turbocharge it. for the cost of an AVO kit, you could probably upgrade to a used WRX with low miles and have all the reliability you want. And you can get more power out of a WRX for the same amount of money spent.
BUT- if you really just want to turbo your RS because you're crazy like that and want to have done it, AVO is a good way to go. 6 psi with good guages and careful tuning is not really any more likely to break than stock, you just have to pay a lot of attention to detail. It's all bolt-on, in fact it doesn't even require all that many parts. You don't need anything that doesn't come in the kit to run it at the boost it is listed for.

Financially I am set. Im not too worried about the money issue..
Ive thought about getting a wrx. and upgrading that car. maybe that would be the best way to go and the safest route?
I just figured mine would be a fun car to upgrade. But Im worried about screwing it over really bad.
I think I will look into a wrx see what I can find. But i will still keep in mind turboing this car.
Thanks guys.

Hey, if you've got the money, and a spare car or motor just in case, it is fun. Bottom line is, both routes make fast cars, but doing a WRX is more reliable, doing an RS-T can be more fun. there are good reasons for doing both.
