A Salesman's perspective

Me and my family said sure ok, then they asked me what other color I preffered then white I said black. They then told me they would sell me a black one for 26k, alright sounds like a good deal, but they didn't meantion it was a TR. I said no i want a regular sedan and they told me it was 28k+ fee's. I laughed, and my parents started donig calculations, and stuff and they kept pushing for me to buy it saying that it's a deal and that I would never find one for cheaper, and they told me they were the #1 dealership in Northern California and numbers dont lie. My dad said 26kOTD and said take it or leave it and he walked out, the salesman was pretty pissed while me and my mom laughed at the salesperson. We then decided to leave while the guy comes running out saying 26kOTD with free boost gauge for the TR i said no thanks im going to find it for 26k OTD somewhere else and the then proceeded to insult me in some foreign language im thinking spanish, but i am not sure. Eitehr way i know for sure he wasn't saying have a good day.
Hello, I-Club! I want you to know that our sales staff at SCS is working hard to provide better service everyday. Now, I am the salesperson mentioned here.
Jeff, you get the car?? I hope you did 'cuz it's a fantastic ride, but please don't lie about me! I can not and will not run your credit without your consent, I only took a copy of your license for insurance purposes. We have a BLACK WRX sedan, not TR, and we haven't recieved a TR in black all year. So, I did not mention it was a TR because it wasn't a TR at all. I do remember you and your family, and I did like dealing with all of you. But, when the other salesperson did talk to you, your dad walked out, seemingly unhappy, but this was out of my hands at this point. And, by the time I last spoke with you, at the curb (I hate doing that!), all communication between your parents and us had ceased. And I told you to go home (Por Deus, Voce vai imbora)...just in Portugese. Nothing mean or vulgar. If you were offended, I'm sorry and take full responsibility for all my actions.
BUT!! Many of you guys on this forum DO NOT UNDERSTAND how difficult it is being a car salesperson. Many of you think cars need to be sold at whatever YOU (the consumer) think is fair, just, or whatever you think you are entitled too. So our prices offend you. Many of you think we're slime *****, insult us, beat your drums online, but never really know the whole story. This offends me. I have worked there a year now, and I have seen very rude people treat us like we owe them something. Same rude people caould care less about us, those slimey sale people. There are definately two sides to every story, and what has happened is true....somewhat. Anybody who has ever sold cars can attest to this: car sales is an emotional business. No one NEEDS a turbo, but you do want it. So if a saleperson has had a bad day, they'll probably exhibit sign of having a bad day. i have read very emotional posts from some very emotional people, but most are conveniently filtered to not shed any negative light on the actions or attitude of said complainer. We are not machines and we get **** on too! What is true is that our entire dealership is working diligently to improve our customer satisfation. My sales manager wants your constructive feedback, not smack talk! The sales staff here at SCS are great people, from a multitude of ethnicities and backgrounds. Some are very knowledgeable, like me (Jonathan) and Sam, others are great negotiators, others are just really hard workers. That big guy, he's a great guy, you just need to be a little open minded to us. Don't crucifiy our sales staff before you speak to us. Call the dealer, ask for me, grill me on the idiosincractic differences that variate between 04, 05, or 06 models. Whatever it is VTD, EBC, VDC, AVLS, or liquid filled engine mounts that improve ride performance, I have answers to all of your geek questions. Better yet, bring your car in for service, and just ask any sales person to show you a car. I love talking to service customers, since buying a new Suby is something you actually do thin about. Above all, this dealership is committed to providing better service to every customer everyday! From this slime ball to you. We're all working on it!
It is real easy to write hateful messages online, but that won't solve your problem.

You forgot rule number one, the customer is always right. No one cares if you had a bad day, its your job to sell cars and control your emotions while doing it. Not tell me your treating people like crap because you had a bad day and that somehow justifies your bad attitude. Remember your not the only dealer in town.

Here's a tip: if your dealing with a customer that speaks english don't make comments in another language its rude.

I don't doubt as a salesmen you have to deal with trouble-makers, joy-riders and everyday morons and misfits however I still don't feel for a salesmen. Salesmen should be polite and knowledgeable. They should be accomodating and professional and every experience I've had with SCS has been less than ideal. Far less; and you know what... those troubles come with the territory.

Understand too, please, that we don't care what YOU consider to be fair. Life is tough and so if we find that the vast majority are selling for a certain price (let's say $500.00 invoice) then we have every right to expect you to do the same. If you fail to adjust then expect to get some heat and negativity for it and... loss of sales. You're right we don't have to like your prices and we don't. That means we go else where like Subaru of Santa Cruz and get our cake and eat it too, all with no stress.

We also don't care what your operating costs are etc (or any other excuse) because that still doesn't excuse your higher than average prices for parts or service. No one will shed a tear for you, not one because of how tough you feel it is. That's business.

Bottom line is you will adjust or you will lose out. Of course you do get a lot of idiots with too much money who give into your mark up and that's the only way I can see that your dealership survives, but you'll not get my money unless the price is right.

Fundenmentally it doesn't matter how you gripe about the customers/community because it's you who suffer and have to make posts on an online forum to try and straighten YOURSELVES out. How many posts has Subaru of Santa Cruz made trying to defend or improve its reputation? None...? That's because they get it.

why not try to be open and honest about everything? if you took the guy's license for insurance purposes ONLY you should tell him so. and saying something in a foreign language doesn't bode well with unhappy customers. Especially when it isn't even nice. "Go home" is pretty rude in my opinion

Also, if you had a bad day and can't work without showing that you had a bad day..then I don't think that you should be working. Why should a customer have to suffer because a salesperson is having a bad day?

I have never sold cars before, but I have been in other professions which has to deal greatly with customers and customer service. Satisfied customers are more willing to return and tell others about their great experience and dissatisfied customers tell even more people about their bad experience(s)... but you should already know that

Maybe you really aren't a "slime ball" as you put it, but it comes off that way. That should be a red flag warning you that something isn't right.

of course you guys need to earn a living too like everyone else, but why not be fair about it? Overpricing doesn't help either. Like seen in this thread..you guys charge a ridiculous amount for an oil filter + crush washer, whereas other dealerships around the area have it for significantly less.

subysalesguy, do you really think that all of the people who have posted about the same issues are making things up about stevens creek just because we don't like the dealership?

Sure it will. It might not solve your problem, but it'd make me feel a whole lot better.

Actually I finally took the time to read the sales dudes post and man you suck. There's no excuse in the world to mutter something under our breathe in a foreign language no less that's rude and disrespectful.

You're exactly what's wrong with SCS and you don't even realize it. Totally unprofessional. Your posts no longer have any credibility, though please do reply since it will be amusing.

Customers talk in their own languages all the time, in my face, and ignore me when I know they speak english. I admit my faults. That was one. It was unprofessional and I have formally apologized to Jeff. As for you, you don't know me, you've never met me. So don't insult me! Try selling cars, it's a difficult job. This forum is full of prima donnas who thinks their lil slice of life actually matters.

Places like Subaru of Santa Cruz and Carlsen Subaru have salespeople as well, and there isn't a huge list of horror stories coming out of those dealerships. There is something "special" about Stevens Creek when there is such a HUGE disparity in customer/potential-customer satisfaction.

Maybe so, and thankfully your business can survive without ours. With an attitude like that, its no wonder i-club and stevens creek don't get along.

You sow what you reap. Lack of respect on a buyers end is due to many years and generations of bad car salesman that continually rip people off. Maybe you're one of the good ones, but you don't get the benefit of the doubt with me, you'll need to prove it.

wow...that was quite a turd of a post, subysalesdude.

My advice to you: If you can't maintain the requisite level of professionalism even if you're having a bad day (this is required in ALL jobs - not just sales), then GET ANOTHER JOB.

Don't come here crying about how your job is tough so you're justified in acting like a douche.
