hey fellow suby owners i was wondering if i get these 18x7.5 rims will i be able to lower my car still or will they cause rubbing if lowered? if not lowered will they rub also? i have also heard from others that the 18s are too big and it makes the car look like its sticking up in the back or front, either or both cas if so then i dont want them and i'll stick with 17s. well let me know asap cas im gonna be buying them soon. prolly this weekend. i will need all the help i can get from here. if anyone knows or has experienced this first hand, please let me know. also show pics if at all possible. i would also want to see pics. thanks oh and by the way, the rims are coming off of a 02 WRX. i have some Tanabe DF 210 lower springs by the way. i dont know the lowering rate on these but i think its 1 1/2 to 2 inches. havnt put them on yet and had them for almost a year unused. and will i need cambers when i lower it? if i do, what kind and from where. thanks again

Rubbing depends on tire width, wheel offset, and camber- and that's pretty much it. Lowering doesn't really matter, because if you aren't using really stiff springs, you get the same amount of roll with stock suspension as you do with lowering springs on a given tire.

What wheel and tire combination are you using? Most 7.5" wide wheels can fit under a GC with minor rolling of the rear fender, or just removing the fender lip molding.

know the rolling diameter is correct on the 18-inch P1s for the 2.5 RS, as they are meant to use 225/40ZR18 tires (which is what I ran on my WRX), which is the proper Plus 2 fitment for the 2.5 RS/WRX stock 205/55R16s.

So diameter-wise, they will work. But maybe 225s are too wide for the wells of an older 2.5 RS? I'd do a quick search to see if 18s fit the old style Imprezza and if so, if there are any mounting issues...

thats what Pete said. let me know if they will rub with Tanabe DF210 lowering springs. i dont know how lowe they actually go. and how would i know the offset and what is the offset anyways? lol i dont know much about these things yet but soon to know. and will i need camber kits for lowering with these rims? help needed badly.

Again, lowering doesn't matter nearly as much as the physical width of the tire and wheel offset. Why? Body roll. Your lowering springs are somewhat stiffer, which reduces body roll, but they start much closer to the top of the fender. ;) Your P1s have stock offset, which helps. A 225 on a 7.5" is pretty close- I wouldn't count on no rubbing, but as I said before, you can probably get away with minimal fender rolling and removing the fender lip molding.

I was wondering if 18x8.5" will fit in the rear on a '03 WRX, I already have TEIN FLex on there and rolling a fender isn't really an issue if it has to be doen it must be done. I was wanting to do a staggered set up with 18x7.5" F and 18x8.5" R. Anybody know the answer, I already have 18x7.5" front running 225's.

You don't want to run staggered sizes on an AWD car.

I'm not sure about your 99 RS but my 02 WRX is adjustable in the front and is not in the rear.

You should be able to get it realigned within good street specs after the springs. It's always a good idea to get an alignment done after suspension mods.

what about 18x7.5 but with an offset of 35mm?

Rubbing.

how bad? will rolling the fenders help?

Kevin M

Possibly, but those wheels would stick out about 35mm more than stock. That's a lot to deal with.

how about +45mm offset?

That would probably only cause minor rubbing that you could easily deal with by removing the fender lip or a little rolling.

35 offsets rub nasty. i had 18x7.5s and i ruined two pilot sports due to fender rubbing. best thing to do is to get the correct offset which i believe is 48.

what if i get 17x7 with an offset of +45mm or +42? will it still rub? 205/40R17 is coming with the rim but i wanted 215, he told me its going to be 215/45R17!! why not 215/40R17????

No rub with the +45, probably not the +42 either. 205/40R17 is way way short though. Even 215/45R17 is shorter than stock, by a little. You'll absolutely want to get rid of the 205/40s, even though they will probably handle very well. You'll probably get tired of your speedo being off by over 10 mph on the freeway, plus your odometer running up faster than it should.

so what a good tire size for 17x7?

215/45 or 225/45.
