Sti Turbo Vs Wrx Turbo

Is There Much Of A Difference Between The Stock Wrx Turbo And The Stock Sti Turbo?

Yeah. About 60-70 peak horsepower worth. The WRX turbo, a Mitsubishi TD04L-13G, is much smaller than the IHI VF39 on the STi. The VF39 is comparable in power to a VF30/VF34. The VF39 is a very good turbo to upgrade your EJ20 with.

Yeah (and BAN would know this), doesn't the EVO have the same TD04 unit but in a 16G size? So, that might give you a reference also....

No, the Evo VIII uses a twin-scroll TD05, or a replacement for the TD05. It's larger than the TD04 though, and obviously flanged differently.

Putting the STI turbo on a WRX?

Trying to figure out what has been done to my '02 wagon. Definately an IHI turbo, but not sure what type. VF34, VF22 or VF39?

Anyone have a pic of a STI turbo out of the car?

I wouldn't call it "common" but it's still a good upgrade. Doing a VF34 nets slightly more power for less money though. That's why that swap happens more often.
