View Full Version : "Patriots"
MVWRX 08-31-2004, 08:57 PM I have a bone to pick with all you American flag flying, blind-alligence giving, overly-religious zelots who call themselves patriots. The truth is, you could not be further from being patriotic.
I see you get angry everytime someone says something isn't right about our government, as if it's a crime to disagree with the people in charge. It's like you think America is a religion; you take whole-heartedly anything the government says is so. The meaning of being a patriot is not just loving your country and obeying the powers that be. Being a patriot is about constantly evaluating the government and deciding weather or not it is acting in the best interest of the country. I don't know the exact quote, but a TRUE patriot named Thomas Jefferson said that those who show a blind alligence to the government and who don't question the actions of the government will be the downfall of a true democracy. So all of you republicans, who get angry everytime someone says somthing bad about Junior, realize that following him around is like the blind leading the blind. Have you ever seen a clip of lemmings running off of a cliff just because the first one did? ...Junior jumped first and all you republicans are in line to go next.

MVWRX 08-31-2004, 09:51 PM Hmm...my bad, Salty, if that wasn't a solid argument...I'll try better next time.

No...you gotta let him/her stay...he/she is going to make a great sparring partner.
FUNKED1 08-31-2004, 10:43 PM This is too easy. Stinky bait MVWRX, try something more subtle. :)
dub2w 08-31-2004, 10:43 PM the one thing that really bugs the crap out of me re: Fox news is the mandatory US pin on their lapel. That sh!t is sooo lame
FUNKED1 08-31-2004, 10:46 PM Yeah the American flag sucks!
dub2w 08-31-2004, 10:49 PM Yeah the American flag sucks!
That is exactly what I said!
That is the type of crap you see in communist countries. Unspoken yet mandatory jingoism
FUNKED1 08-31-2004, 11:20 PM Except it's not mandatory.
dr3d1zzl3 09-01-2004, 03:25 AM mv go into more detail i agree with you but i want to see you put it in greater detail, not just an op ed peice if you can swing it.
dub2w 09-01-2004, 08:16 AM Unspoken yet mandatory jingoism
Read: unspoken... it is almostr part of their uniform
HellaDumb 09-01-2004, 09:39 AM .
Touch my flag and see what happens =).
MVWRX 09-01-2004, 10:58 AM There's nothing wrong with having a flag...unless you incesently use it as a symbol of how good of an American you are. For instance, posting that you have a flag waving and implying that you'd beat the s*** out of someone who did something to it. Things like that are why 95% of the world hates Americans right now...and no matter what your political stance, it's never good to have the whole world against you.
Also I should clarify that I'm not attacking the flag in anyway...just a group of people who watch the O'Reilly factor and feel that anyone who disagrees with Bill should be locked up...that group of people tends to over-use the American flag as a symbol of superiority rather than the symbol of freedom and equality it's meant as.
BlingBlingBlue 09-01-2004, 11:10 AM Yeah the American flag sucks!
You know what I think sucks? People driving around and/or displaying ripped up, faded flags. It's so ironic that these people are trying to show support for their nation and then totally disrespect the symbol. I love the flag and I love my country. That is why I am willing to talk about ways to improve it, and discuss errors I believe we have made.

Who are you to say what the flag means to any individual?
Are you saying there is someting wrong with national pride? Do you think national pride is arrogant and blind? Do you think people who honor our flag and country are wrong?
Our flag represents our country.. good and bad. I think it is honorable and just to die for what it represents.
psoper 09-01-2004, 12:42 PM Are you saying there is someting wrong with national pride? .
Well, when your country is WRONG, yes there can be something wrong with national pride
Do you think national pride is arrogant and blind? .
Sometimes- it can be, and especially when it is arrogent and blind- national pride can be VERY WRONG.
Do you think people who honor our flag and country are wrong?.
Not that in and of itself, but I think they are wrong if they think that that alone is enough to be doing their part, and again especially if it is accompanied by blind arrogance and a lack of respect for others.
Our flag represents our country.. good and bad. I think it is honorable and just to die for what it represents.
OK, I'll grant you that but at the same time I think it is stupid and wasteful to die for the sake of corporate profits and international theft- when that is the truth behind nearly all wars leading to foreign occupation.
And when it comes down to the cold hard facts, if you ask me, no one has died in Iraq for what our flag represents.
Thanks for the opportunity to share my opinions

let me guess you will spout half truth and blatent lies in an attempt to confuse your opponent while you rally the religious right to mount a crusade against your opponents moral edicts?

There is a point where PRIDE blinds a person, that is when it is an issue for all.
He is talking about people who are past that point, you seem to be in that group based on the two posts in this thread.
MVWRX 09-01-2004, 01:18 PM Thanks Dre and psoper...you guys seem to understand what I'm saying...everyone is fallible, even the gov't...even me, even you, and even HELLADUMB (even if he's rep'n NorCal...by the way helladumb, how does it feel to know that no matter how you vote ALL of the CA electorial college votes are gonna be for Kerry?)

It feels REALLY good to know that CA has already been written off.
MVWRX 09-01-2004, 02:52 PM written off? nope...just points for my team, not yours...the fact that the election comes down to a couple states every four years doesn't change the importance of the 'dedicated' states in the election...
