When are MTV, Rolling Stone and other "Hip rock and roll establishments" going to realize that politics and music don't mix?!

Same thing goes for all these celebrities that think we give a rats ass about their political views when the real tragedy is in their acting abilities and lack of camera time.

I do feel sorry for the Kerry daughters as it must be hard being the daughter of a presidential runner. Shame on Kerry and the admin for putting his daughters in that situation.

THE BOOS THAT ROCKED THE VOTE: KERRY DAUGHTERS RECEIVE RUDE AWAKENING AT MTV AWARDS
Sun Aug 29 2004 23:36:31 ET

MTV, ROLLING STONE and the rock and roll establishment -- past and present -- have cast their vote, and their man is John Kerry.

So on Sunday night when John Kerry's daughters were announced to speak at the annual MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS, the MTV youth were expected to welcome his daughters as pop culture princesses.

Instead, in an era of the unexpected, the daughters of the Democratic candidate were met with cheers -- AND JEERS -- during the live broadcast in Miami.

From the moment Alexandra and Vanessa started speaking, the boos outweighed anything close to cheers, and the reaction turned worse when the daughters asked the VIACOM youth to vote for their father. So shocked by the reaction, the taller of the two daughters tried to 'shhhhhh' her peers to no avail.

Jeb Bush country... waddya expect?

It has nothing to do with "Jeb Bush country"...

Instead, everyone's tired or the smear campaign and probably agrees with the fact an award show dedicated to Music shouldn't even scratch the surface of politics.

Although I think it's in extremely poor taste and highly immature for the audience to boo her, I'm going to agree with why they did so...

you're going to agree with your own opinion of why they booed?

who knows why they booed... but isnt this the Nintendo generation you have railed against in thread's past??

We are talking MTV peeps here, that's why it got attention (because it was unexpected). I heard a rebroadcast of it... lots of boos.

hypotheticals, conjecture, yadda yadda yadda

I am used to this from your mouth. I would suggest that you read a book called "The Elements of Reasoning". It will help you understand how to argue. Throwing out hypotheticals and conjecture represent fallacious reasoning and derail any (feeble) attempt you make towards a legit argument

This thread is pretty silly. Great, Kerry's tit-bearing daughters got booed at the VMA awards. Are you Joan Rivers? How about something worth talking about???

Actually the Bush twins were booed as well. So I think Salty is right that people are getting sick of mixing politics with entertainment.

I am sick and tired of hearing of who celebrities are voting for and I really hate when they use their time accepting awards and such to ramble about politics and why we shouldn't vote for this person or that.

The purpose of that RNC thread was to express my prediction on what I thought would happen via bet. I was hoping people, such as yourself, would follow suit by betting a few dollars which we would exchange at a latter date with paypal. It was never intended to be an argument which is why I presented a hypothetical. Had you read the thread in its entirety you would have known this!

As for reasonable arguments & debates, I'll school you any day of the week so don't even venture down that path, dub2w.

Did this thread become silly after the 1st -or- 2nd time you posted a rebuttal in it? Or was it your 3rd and final post in a 13 post (this far) thread?

I hate to grab stuff from a post you just put up, but...

The only people that care about this are those that were already against Bush, such as, yourself and the SFgate... therefore nothing changes and the protestors are back to square-one.

This is conjecture. And btw, discourse is meant to throw ideas around. If you think you are always right, congratulations. You get two stars by your name

One of the most intelligent things I have ever heard was, "A wise man is a man who knows how little he knows, not how much."

My fortune cookie quote for the day.

When have I ever taken a solid stand on something that's been proven false? You must have me confused with Dre when he stuck by his 9/11 pentagon hearsay theory.

There's been a few occasions when I've admitted defeat due to factual information, statistics and/or a convincing argument. If my RNC protest theory is proven false I’ll paypal you a 12case of beer, okay!?

I've said "point taken" or agreed with psoper, constellation and even you in a couple threads so you're wrong again!

Btw... this is your 4th post in this "pretty silly thread" :)

You could hear it but it was much less than the other two. The bushys were taped and could be turned up over the airwaves wheras the Kerry 2 were live mic which was also picking up the crowd in the theatre. As much as you'd wouldn't like to believe it Hella they were getting booed. ;)

I assumed they were, but I was actually suprized that the Kerrys got booed... I think that's why this was a news story =).

If you don't think politics should be involved in rock music, and pop culture in general (by pop I don't mean crappy music, I mean rock+hiphop+iPods+WRXs+whateverybodygenerallylikes nowadays), you are not a patriotic American (and you're probably a republican). Politics is supposed to be a part of every aspect of our lives, but that scares republicans because they know that if everybody in the country voted there is NO WAY any republicans would get into office. In a democracy, it's not that everyone has the right to vote and be political, it's that everyone has an OBLIGATION to vote and be political. Rock stars and MTV being politisized means that more young people now are paying attention to politics, and that can only mean good things (because, like I implied before, if everyone votes then the system will represent what most people want). I cannot think of any aspect of life that is not affected by politics, so why shouldn't every aspect of life in turn affect politics.

Let me get this straight... By having this view and/or being a Republican you're "not a patriotic American" by default?! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v282/sierra11b/Emoticons/bigeek.gif

I don't agree with Dre, psoper, constellation and dub2w 95% of the time but I respect their views as ‘patriotic’ because we're civil Americans capable of rational thought despite our views & differences.

*Ques Rage Against the Machine*

Forget the suicide rate in Alaska on a cold, dark afternoon! Imagine the increase if everything had a political message.

I like to think of my music as "unspoiled" and "pure"... like the Olympic Games which represent the spirit of competition and athletic skill, not politics, boundaries and borders. I want to be able to play my old Pearl Jam cd's (before they sucked) and remember the early 90's. Instead, I can't stand to hear on lyric that's to Eddy Vedder's sharp tongue on stage.

I don't care if it's an artist bashing Kerry -or- The Dixie Chick's Natalie Maines bashing Bush, politics with music is unprofessional, shallow, unnecessary, depreciative and tasteless.

I can appreciate that point; I suppose it's good to have a safe-haven from politics in some aspect of life. But so much of music is political anyway, lyrically I mean. Old Cream songs, the Who, and many more sang about politics...do you think that's wrong too? Or just they shouldn't be political when they're not making music...

Well both the daughters (Bush and Kerry) got booed so thats probably why you saw it on MTV and they didn't edit out the sound.
