View Full Version : check engine light keeps turning on
my25rs 11-23-2002, 12:17 PM i already wasted a lot of money fixing the check engine light, but it still comes on. I took it to a subaru dealer when my machanic couldn't fix it and i kept on taking it there too and wasted more money. They fix everything, changing my gear ratio, replacing the o2 censor, replacing gas cap, and replacing hoses. What could be the problem with my '99rs? if anyone has an idea please help me out?
When it came on again i just reseted the ecu
ImprezaRSDriver 11-24-2002, 01:22 AM My friend told me that his 99RS was part of a recall for the front MAP sensor. You might want to check on it because the had a check engine light also.
Kostamojen 11-24-2002, 01:53 AM 99's would be the MAF sensor.
As soon as mine starts that I'm pulling the damn bulb out. Its also another good reason to go with a standalone ECU setup.

I have done that before. I have been through like 4 rear o2 sensors, and one time I got sick of that bright light giving me a tan every time I drove, so I just took the bulb out until the sensor was replaced.

Supraru 12-01-2002, 11:05 AM Before I the recall I had that problem it would just come on and go off, it really pissed me off. Now with the new one my check engine light hasn't been on once. I also have a wepon r intake.
Tachometer 12-01-2002, 01:44 PM What mods are on the car?
Tachometer
Peaty 12-01-2002, 02:10 PM If it really is the rear and not front O2 sensor (code 420 is it?) then you can get a CEL fix to prevent the light from coming on. The rear sensor really isn't for engine management just an indication of Cat efficiency.
my25rs 12-07-2002, 08:03 PM thanks for all the help. i havent check the the forums for a while. How do i check the maf sensor, is it the same as o2 censor??
Can you tell me more information about CEL mod?
code is 420
the only mod i have is a intake
RebelINS 12-07-2002, 11:06 PM The MAF sensor measures airflow in you intake, the O2 sensor measures your exhaust gas content. They aren't the same thing, but are both common problems. If it is a 420 code, then it is an o2 sensor problem. Like Peaty mentioned you can get a fix for it. It really isn't that big of a deal, your car I am sure is running fine, just not efficient as far as emissions are concerned.

WRX-7 12-08-2002, 11:20 PM Yap. I got my MAF sensor replaced. Received a recall notice from Subaru Of Canada, although I never had any problem with it. :)
Nasty Butler 12-10-2002, 09:16 AM Has anybody tried tightening the gas cap?! :D
