View Full Version : Where to get STi Key Cut? I'd just ask around at the local hardware stores, tell them what the STI key cost you and ask them to guarantee the cut. If they cant guarantee it just find a place that will. Zoeb2s 01-18-2003, 12:28 PM I tell them the key is worth $30 and they will cut it and they guarantee it also??..how much do they usually charge? Thanks, Zoeb 04BlackWRX 01-18-2003, 03:13 PM Originally posted by 02BlackWRX I tell them the key is worth $30 and they will cut it and they guarantee it also??..how much do they usually charge? Thanks, Zoeb It shouldn't be more than $4 or $5. tloc 01-19-2003, 05:24 AM I don't KNOW if they will guarantee it, that's why you need to ask them if they will. Mulder 01-19-2003, 09:05 AM Home Depot can do it, that's where I had mine done and I know some others that had theirs cut at HD also. Just be sure they have the new style machine, some of the locations still have the old lathe-type one. It didn't even cost me anything, the guy was really cool and refused to take my money. RSEnigma 01-19-2003, 06:35 PM my friend got a couple of those STi keys for his rs because they claimed it would fit all subaru cars, but they're like 1/3 thicker than the stock keys. does anyone know about this or has anyone had them worked on to fit the rs? thanks! Mulder 01-19-2003, 07:02 PM I believe the situation with the GC cars and the STi key is that it can be made to work in the ignition with some filing but it won't work in the doors or trunk. I don't have first-hand knowledge of this so don't take my word as the final answer. RSEnigma 01-19-2003, 07:46 PM yeah i hear ya, thanks for the info tho go go go 01-20-2003, 02:11 AM yeah, if you use STi key on GC8, file it down to make it thinner. It doesn't take that long to file it down. I did that and works fine on all the key holes;) Some hardwhere store (OSH near my place) has more sophisticated machine and can't cut it for GC, I recomemd you to go hardwhere store who has older simpler machine or locksmith. RSEnigma 01-20-2003, 11:09 AM yeah i hav a place at home that is a great cutter. i'm at school now so if i get one i'll just bring it to the machine shop and hav them make it pretty! |
