Every 3,000 miles using mobil 1 and I have been using the factory filters. Altough I have read that other ppl change the oil every 3 months no matter what.

Hey dude... do a search... there are plenty of threads on such topics already... and to be honest, everyone has their own ideas/methods of doing things....

if you're looking for a baseline recommendation, turn to the handy owner's manual and follow that; can't go wrong going that route - its what subaru recommends after all. :)

I push my xterra out to 5k with mobil1 but my subaru gets 3k with mobil1 even though mechanics have told me I could push it out too , but it gets driven a bit harder than the wifes car...wink, wink. I use hastings filters.
Now here's a problem I have encountered after doing my last change...drip drip. one drip per day on the garage floor.
It of course originates from the drain plug and I suspect it is the copper washer which has been reused too many times. The book says to change it out evry time , I have never done so with any vehicle but I guess this one realy is finiky.Any others have this, or do you all blanketly change out the washer?
I will search the correct torque for the drain plug to make extra sure i'm tightened down correctly.
Has anyone attempted to change out the copper washer to a fiber washer , which almost any other vehicle has? This would allow for cheap workplace replacement if possible.

well a quick search answered my washer question , guess I'll be investing in a box of those , I'll just stick with the factory washer and not do any experiments.

everyone I talk to says it is just the washer. The fiber washers are reusable even though they are also supposed to be changed out evry oil change , but it seems these copper ones are a crush type and require a new one evrey time.Oh well guess Ill be dumping all thet new oil as soon as I get my hand on a bunch.

Every 5K miles using some cheapo fram oil filters and Mobil-1 full synthetic, (used to use the OEM filters, but so far haven't noticed any comparable difference).
