Hey Brian, does STROMUNG have a 3rd Cat Eliminator (3" all the way) ? If so, can they fit my HKS exhaust? I need a 3" flange to mate it perfectly because the stock DONUT gasket will leak eventually when I had my HKS exhaust on. How much for the 3" DP and 3" 3EC shipped to CA94015? How much for 3" DP(no cat) and 3" midpipe with high flow cat?

what would price be on a 3" DP with high flow cat plus the 3CE pipe in 3"?

Flash N Dash
06-01-2004, 02:32 PM
Andy,

Hey Stromung does make a 3in pipe that eliminates the second cat. If you have the HKS cat back then if you were to get the 3in DP and 3in Secondary DP or racepipe as known then you should have no problems in theory.

The price of the 3in Primary DP and Secondary(racepipe) with no cats would be $405 shipped.

The price of the 3in Primary DP and Secondary DP with cats would be $535 shipped.

You do have the HKS cat back right? You didn't by some chance just get the rear muffler section did you? If you have the Cat back then one of the above prices will fit what you need! :)

Let me know if you have any questions and I will help you out through this. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Thanks,
Brian

Beeker - Just to be clear for everyone the 3in DP only comes with no cats in it. There is not an option for a High flow cat in the Primary DP piece. The next pipe that comes off of the Primary DP has the option to be had in either a High flow catpipe or a racepipe with no cat.

I listed the prices in the post above for what you were asking for. :) If you want a high flow cat in at least one of the two pipes then you would go for the Primary DP and Secondary DP w/high flow cat.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,
Brian

P.S. Here is a pic of the 3in Primary DP and the Secondary DP (Racepipe) with no cats.

for the stromung 3rd cat eliminator, is it required to get a new donut gasket?

Flash N Dash
06-02-2004, 12:37 PM
methinkadoo - All of the Stromung pieces are ment to fit upto the stock pieces. So you wouldn't have to get any new parts. Now the 3rd cat Eliminator pipe is 2.5" so it will fit upto the stock pieces with no problems because the stock is 2.5".

Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

how much for 3 inch waste gate dp catless race pipe and intermidiate pipe to hook up with stock muffler? on sti! silverfox1

Flash N Dash
06-07-2004, 12:17 AM
silverfox1 - So you want to keep just the stock muffler section? Then you would need the Primary DP, Secondary DP with or without cat, and then the Intermediate pipe to connect to the rear muffler section. Is this what you want?? Let me know and I will get you pricing right away!

hey brian, i have the espelir jgt500 exhaust on my STi, i was wondering if the 3rd cat eliminator will mate up to it. also, after removing that one cat, the STi will have 1 remaining cat, does that count as a stage2 car? or considered stage1?

Flash N Dash
06-08-2004, 12:12 PM
methinkadoo - You have the Espelir Cat Back exhaust?? Do you know what size the piping is at that flange that connects to the catpipe? If it is 2.5in then I think it will work. I will talk to Stromung once I hear from you and see what is the best set up for you. :) I think it would be a Stage 1 still. When you go replacing all of the pipes and uppipe then it would be like a Stage 2.

Let me know and I will see what we can hook you up with!

Thanks,
Brian

I believe it is 2.5 inch because it does mate up with the stock downpipe.

Flash N Dash
06-08-2004, 11:23 PM
methinkadoo - Yeah then most likely the 3rd Cat Eliminator pipe will be the right choice to go with then. :) All of the Stromung pieces were built to mate up to the stock pieces. So you just want to replace the catpipe...you don't want to get the down pipe too??

Thanks,
Brian

i was just afraid of getting some sort of boost creep. i was thinking maybe removing 1 cat will lessen the restriction enough that boost creep isn't present. i really dont want to PnP my wastegate if i don't have to. and i also want to pass emissions

Flash N Dash
06-09-2004, 02:55 PM
methinkadoo - Yeah boost creep is a pain...and with removing one of the cats you will free up some of that. I understand passing emissioins...you must live out in CA or somewhere like that where you have the testing. Let me know when you are ready for the 3rd Cat Eliminator then! :)

i need a price on 3'downpipe w/waste gate the next pipe which i believe is secondary dp without cat or race pipe and then the intermidiate pipe that will mate to my stock muffler and tail pipe for sti 04.total price shipped? thanks silverfox1

Flash N Dash
06-13-2004, 11:17 PM
silverfox1 - Hey I talked to Stromung and they don't make an Intermediate Pipe that would fit the stock rear muffler section. Their Intermediate pipe is all 3in and you need a pipe that will taper down to 2.5in. I am looking into a company that makes an Intermediate pipe that starts out 3in then has a flex joint and then tapers down to 2.5in so it will bolt upto the stock muffler section. So I will let you know what I find out about this deal. Or you can always go with the full Turbo Back exhaust. What they have found when you go 3in all the way and then use the stock rear muffler it shows that it causes a lot of back pressure that is not needed or wanted. Just to let you know. So maybe now you have enough info to make a well informed decision on what it is you need to get. :) I hope this helps!

On a side note...Stromung has been doing a lot of dyno testing for the WRX and STI and have found that when it came to the STI they found higher HP numbers when they went with a DP without the separated wastegate. Don't ask me why but the numbers don't lie. So I would recommend that...there is no difference in the price but the numbers are different.

Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

Thanks,
Brian

so you said if i use 3" downpipe and 3"secondary or race pipe and intermidiate pipe that it wont mate up tp stock sti muffler correct?then if i were to go with 2.5 catless dp and catless race pipe and intermidate pipe than it would mate up properly to stock sti muffler correct? i would also like the primary dp ceramic coated. please help me out im new to the tuner scene! how much shipped to fla.?

Flash N Dash
06-18-2004, 10:17 PM
silverfox1 - Yeah since the OEM WRX/STI piping is all 2.5in then if you were to get the Stromung 2.5in it would mate upto the rear muffler section. Just out of curiousity why are you wanting to keep the stock rear muffler?? Anyways I can't get the DP ceramic coated not that you would need it. The exhaust pieces are perfect just the way they are. It is an unnecessary procedure.

Now for the 2.5in Catless DP, 3rd Cat Eliminator pipe, and Intermediate pipe it would be $535 shipped! :)

Let me know what you think! This setup would work with your stock rear muffler!

1wrx2goplz - No I sure wouldn't. There has not been any formal measurement of the DB level. This exhaust is made in CA and they have done all kinds of testing. They have to put up with the strict conduct of the CA police and we have had a ton of customer buy these exhausts that live in CA and have not had any problems with the sound. Also I have had a bunch tell me that the cops look at the overall car more then just the sound of your exhaust. If you look like your car should be in the Fast and the Furious then it just draws attention that causes them to then look to the exhaust as one of the main writeups. I hope this helps!

Let me know if I can do anything further for you! :)

Well i wish cops were like that around here. I was state refed from a cop because my exhaust was to loud. I had the HKS carbon TI and Helix dp/up combo. I was lucky he didnt search for a cat. Thats why i went and bought a borla Hush but it is too quiet for me and i want something a tab bit louder but i dont wanna get pulled over because my exhaust is to loud. And no my car doesnt have any fast and furious stuff on it. It looks stock from the outside ;)

Flash N Dash
06-24-2004, 04:23 AM
1wrx2goplz - Yeah that HKS is a loud one! :) I think that you will be happy with the level of sound you get out of the Stromung. Most people go with the Dual Tip because it is a hair quieter and it looks like a stock exhaust. On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the loudest the HKS would be a 5 and the stock would be a 1 and the Borla Hush would be 2 with the Stromung's being about a 3-3.5

I hope that helps!

mcdrama - The Single tip is a straight cut rolled tip and it is 3in. The XA Tip is angle cut non-rolled tip that is 3.5in. And yes you can still get either of the tips in 2.5in piping or 3in piping. SooKy - If you get the racepipe then you will have no cats left in the main exhaust system. It will take out the two cats there. And with the Helix unless they have a high flow cat then you have already removed that one as well. You will be running with max HP though! :) I am running without cats on mine and it is great...and I haven't had any problems from it. Let me know what you think and if you have any other questions!

chxh8me - The 3in DP is 3in all the way...and the stock 3rd cat pipe is 2.5in so it won't fit...but Stromung has been tickering around with making parts that will fit stock pieces....I will check with them to see if they have made anything new like this. Or you can always get the whole exhaust! ;)

is this the same as a high flow track pipe?

Flash N Dash
10-11-2004, 10:36 PM
rsracer2005 - First off Stromung doesn't make a cat eliminator pipe for your car that I am aware of...but they do have a High Flow Catpipe for your car that is 2.25in piping. This will increase HP by 4-7 depending on what you have done to your car already. This is not what they consider a track pipe because it still has a form of a cat in it. Just better flowing then stock.

The price on this piece is $345 shipped in the US.

EDIT - Now a Track Pipe from Stromung is available for $265 shipped.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Just how much do you think this axle back will quiet my exhaust down and do you know for sure that it will bolt up to the front section of my Nur-Spec catback? With the silencer in the Blitz I can handel the volume but without it's as loud as a mofo. I'm hopeing to buy something that is the same volume or a little louder than my Nur-Spec with the silencer and I want to get rid of the grapefruit shooter look. I'm not too worried about the volume at WOT, just at idle and when I'm cruiseing up to 85 mph (no droning). Also is the muffler black with stainless tips or is it all stainless in color?

Sorry to bombard you with these questions but I would hate to spend $465 and have an exhaust that is too loud for my taste. If your answers are what I'm looking for I will be ordering an axle back and gasket very soon.

Current exhaust mods.

i had a 3" straight through magnaflow with a 4" tip catback custom made a year or so ago. that thing was freakin loud, i'd imagine it's about as loud as your nur-spec since it's very similar construction. The stromung is much quieter, even at WOT. it's even wife friendly ;) as for the looks, it is a full stainless muffler. looks pretty stock though, here's mine.

RussB - You are DA MAN on answering all these questions. :) You are right on top of things. Oh and nice pic there! :)

MO REX - Exactly what RussB was saying. It will be quieter then the NurSpec for sure but still loud enough to notice. And it is all Stainless and looks bad arss! ;) As far as for sure it will bolt up in theory it should since most catbacks use the same design flow but there has been no offical testing done. So you are at your own risk with that one. But I would think it would fit. Just want to be up front with you. Either way you will have a great exhaust and if it doesn't fit I will work with you to get you the other pipe that will work with it.

So just let me know what you would like to do!

MO REX - Yor are most welcome! I will be responding to your PM in a few minutes.

Flanders - So you have a 2000 Legacy Wagon correct? If so then any of the exhausts that you posted will fit your car. The difference in the exhausts, Catback vs. Axleback, is in the name. A catback consists of two parts...and Intermediate Pipe and a Rear Muffler Section....and it connects just behind the catylitic converter of your car. Hince Catback... And the Axle Back is one piece it is just the Rear Muffler section...going from the axle of your car back...hence Axleback. See the diff? The Catback will give you more HP but neither are real loud. The most popular is the Dual Tip because it looks stock and produces a nice sound but it is not real loud at all. Let me know if you have any other questions but this is what I would recommend for your car.

PoopRSkupe - Yes we sure do! It is like all of the Stromung exhausts...Stainless Steel. No more of that mild stuff! ;) And I understand about not wanting to read through all of these pages...it was up to 40 earlier this year and I had to start a new one! That is how much people love these exhausts though. Let me know if you are ready to get one or if you have any other questions!

Thanks,

I am keeping the quoted material incase others in my situation are looking for similar info.

FYI: My tailpipe is hidden and bends downward behind the bumper and is single tip.

Are either bolt on or need special installation? This will pass Cal emissions? Does anyone know how long this should last?

Do you have anything regarding brakes or other mods for this vehicle?

Thanks for the quick results, very appreciated.

PoopRSkupe - Hey the current price is $405 shipped in the US. And the PayPal address is autransam@earthlink.net :) Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Flanders - There is no special requirements that I am aware of for a different pipe. All are built to fit the stock specs of the Subarus. You are not replacing any of the cats so you don't have any problems with emissions...only when you replace those do you have to worry about them passing emissions. I will get together a list of mods that I can think of for your car and email them to you. Sound good? :)

I just got the axel back and I am very happy with it. The pipes lined up good but the holes in the flanges didnt so I took it to a muffler shop and they focked up the blitz pipe so now I need a price on the front portion of a Strumung catback.

I must say this axel back really quieted my exhaust a lot (almost too much) but I think when I get rid of the Blitz pipe which has a 2 foot section of reasonator and replace it with the Stromung piece it will be perfect. Am I correct in thinking the Stromung pipe doesnt have a reasonator and do you know of anyone that has mounted a Stromung cat back to a TXS catpipe? My cat pipe has already been customized to fit the blitz and it now has a flange like the one on the Stromung axel back you just sent me.

If any of you people out there are thinking about purchaseing from Flash N Dash I would say go for it. Brian has been honest, very helpful, he also sells a great product and I would recommend them to anyone.

MO REX - Hey thank you for your kind words! :) I hate that it didn't work but I know you will be happy with the Stromung full Catback anyways because it does not have a resonator built into the Intermediate Pipe. Which by the way will be $180 shipped for the 3in Intermediate Pipe. ;) The Blitz Catback has that resonator built in because their exhaust is so loud that they needed a buffer to tone it done a bit and even then it is pretty loud!

I know I have had other customers that have had the TurboXS DP but I do not remember their comments on the fitment. The claim from TurboXS is that their catback adapter will fit any catback on the market...so I guess we will see. It should work based on what their claim is.

Let me know when you are ready to get that Intermediate Pipe!

Thanks,
Brian

I will not be able to use the cat back adapter. TXS doesn't have a catted adapter and I dont want to go completely catless because of the smell and enviornmental issues. I will have to attempt to fit it to the catted mid pipe without cutting the new piece I will be buying from you. I dont have too much room because of the 02 sensor bung so I may have to have some cut off of the front and rear of the catted midpipe bla bla bla.

I will be contacting you to purchase the intermediate pipe within the next 2 weeks. I have kept myself in the habit of paying my credit card bill in full so once that is done I send you the $.

Edit: Does the Stromung intermediate pipe have a flex joint at the first flange? The reason I ask is because someone told me they thought it did. I just left some feedback on your trader rating.

Thanks

MO REX - Hey if you still have your factory catpipe but just modified then the Stromung was meant to fit upto the stock pieces nicely. But if it is modified then it should be a little work but nothing major I hope.

The Intermediate pipe does not have a flex joint. :)

Sounds good on the credit card thing...if more people did that then less would be in debt like crazy. You are a smart cookie! Just let me know when you are ready to go!

Thanks for the feedback too! :)

So does that mean the Stromung intermediate pipe starts off at the stock size then goes to 3"? I was hopeing for something that was full 3" since I have a full 3" TBE right now. If you quoted me a price for an intermediate pipe that was meant to bolt up to the factory midpipe and there is a full 3" intermediate pipe made by Stromung is there a price difference?

(Current exhaust mods)

STI upipe

TXS DP/cat pipe (the cat pipe is modified)

Blitz Nur-spec R intermediate pipe (modified to bolt to Stromung axle back)

Full 3" Stromung dual tip axle back

(Future exhaust mod plan)

STI upipe

TXS DP/catpipe (modified cat pipe)

Full 3" Stromung cat back

Hey everyone sorry for the delay we have been away for a show over the last 4 days. So everything will get back to normal now....sorry for the trouble. ;)

MO REX - If you tell me you need a full 3in Intermediate pipe then I will make sure you get it. Stromung does make two different ones...one that will fit the stock catpipe and one for a full 3in turbo back. So just make sure you tell me which you need when you order. They are the same price also.

BLegacy - Checking them now also and you will have an answer within a few minutes!

RussB - Cool looks like that added that for their turbo backs because they didn't have them before. Thanks for the insight bud!

PoopRSkupe - Your stuff got a little delayed because Stromung ended up closing last week to go to the SEMA show so that pushed everything back. I called them just now and got you a tracking number on your stuff and you will be seeing it this week! Sorry for the delay but SEMA shuts down a lot of places for that week. ;) I will PM you the tracking number.

I have a couple questions

1)Is the full 3" intermediate pipe the same length as the one that is made to hook up to the OEM DP? If not is it longer or shorter and by how much?

2)Do you sell stainless 3" flanges and if so how much? When I modify my TXS catpipe, I would like to keep everything stainless.

Thanks

MO REX

I think I found the SS flange I am looking for if you dont sell them. The flange I found has 7/16" diameter mounting holes spaced 4-3/16 a part (from center-to-center). Do you know if that is the right size? If not I can measure when I get the pipe.

Thanks

MO REX - Hey there! The pipe would be the same length as the one made to hook upto the OEM pipe. Not sure on the flange measurements. You would just have to measure when you get the piece. Glad that you found the flanges because I don't carry them individually. :) Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey Brian,

Awesome prices! Just wondering if you know if there is much horsepower diff. between the 2.5in. turboback w/cat and the 3in. version w/cat. I am sort of cautious about going with a catless system since I will be driven on the street. Do you know if one or the other is little bit safer when it comes time to go for emissions? Also I’m sort of confused as to how many cats I would have total on the exhaust if I chose either one of these systems, could you break it down for me?

Thanks,

mutant 9 - You are right no difference in the WRX and STi Catbacks....the 3in DP will not fit the stock because it is a full 3in pipe trying to connect to the 2.5in pipe. It will connect but there is a chance that you will not get a tight fit. No telling...I have had people say that they have got it to work fine and others say that they had to work it a little to get it to not leak. Hope this helps!

SubRob - Hey I just replied to your email with the same questions so you can check that for the answers! :) Let me know!

Will the 2.5" catless down pipe connect to the stock midpipe with out problem on my 03 WRX?

I notice that there is no devorced waistgate on this peice nor is there a bellmouth for the waistgate. What effects does this have on performance and turbo responce?

mutant 9 - Stromung is not making the 2.5in DP anymore because everyone was wanting the 3in because it made more power. If you wanted one I could see if they would do a special order but it would take a little longer to get it. All of Stromung's 2.5in parts fit upto the stock pieces great. They had better torque numbers on the 2.5in DP then anything else but the 3in stuff made better HP numbers. :) Let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Brian

Our pipe is similar to the Stromung, but there are some very important differences. Here's the description of our pipe:

"The Crucial Racing Systems downpipe is manufactured to the highest standards using 100% 304 stainless for the pipes AND flanges, ensuring perfect fitment. This 3” pipe will bolt to your stock catalytic converter. It features a divorced wastegate and the wastegate tube is extended to just next to the bottom of the main exhaust pipe to minimize turbulence in exhaust gas flow.

The pipes and flanges are coated with the highest quality metallic-ceramic thermal protective barrier available today (2000 F is its rating and at 2400 F the coating still retains its integrity) to keep under-hood temperatures noticeably lower and maintain higher exhaust gas velocity. Extreme care is taken during the coating application process to ensure that the coating is applied consistently and will never fail."

Without naming ANY other manufacturer, especially Stromung, DPs are often made with "stainless steel pipe" but the grade is not mentioned and the material used for the flanges frequently is not mentioned. That's why we offer a lifetime guarantee.

As far as the midpipe goes, we have one in development now. But any midpipe that bolts up to the stock DP will work.

Brian: Care to elaborate on this matter?

not trying to cause trouble but just want to know if STROMUNG knows about a "similar" if not duplicate pipe out there that is just made out of another material and ceramic coated.

iNfEk - Hey bud sorry for the delay in response! I have been closed for the holidays and have just gotten back into town! :) I do not know a lot about this new company any their claims but I will pass it onto Stromung and see what they have to say. Stromung has been in business for a long time now and have always strived to protect the integrity of their products and service. I have talked to other companies about this coating process before and they said that trapping the heat inside the Downpipe was a bad idea. This came from TurboXS...and I have talked to others about this too and they all said that trapping the heat in the downpipe would not be very safe or reliable. I will pass this on to Stromung though and see what they will say.

Brian,
I got an '02 WRX wagon w/Vishnu Stage 0. I want to more power but minimize loudness (although a dose of boxer-rumble would be great!). I want to minimize droning in the car when traveling around. Here's some questions:
1) what is the power difference between 2.5" and 3" turbo back exhaust?
2) will a 2.5" be more quiet (that you can notice)?
3) if I were to simply add the Stromung primary DP w/waste gate and add a Stromung Catback to the other stock exhaust components (ie third cat) would this make since to do and would noise be reduced and have a noticible power gain over just a catback? Could this be done with either the 2.5" and or 3"?

Thanks,

shazaam - It is 2.25in piping.

SkyHunt_WRX - Hey if you were trying to increase power then you would want to stay with the 3in piping...going with the 2.5in is only good for increased torque. If you were going to replace the Primary DP and get a catback then it would only make sense to go all the way and get a full Turboback because that would be the most cost effective and ensure that everything match up properly because the stock pipe is 2.5in. So to get a full 3in would make more sense. The Stromung exhausts are known for being not loud but giving you more of the boxer rumble like you want. Either of the tips will be fine with the XA being the loudest then the Single Tip, and least noisy being the Dual Tip. So that is what I would recommend going with a 3in Dual Tip Turboback with either high flow catpipe or racepipe depending on what set up you want. Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

hey, I have the stromung 2.5" downpipe, but was wondering if they make the 2.5 inch "3rd cat eliminator" with a high flow cat?

Thanks, if they don't is it possible for you to let me know of any other 2.5" pipes with a high flow cat? Right now I'm running the stock 2.25" cat to an STi 2.5" Catback, and would like a full 2.5" exhaust.
Thanks again,
Craig

Will a 2005 WRX pass smog with a 3rd cat eliminator?

0 4 P S M W R X - Should not be too long now! :) I emailed you the tracking numbers for your order!

Patrick Olsen - You just wanted the Dual Tip Rear Muffler right? That would be $485 shipped to HI 2nd Day Air! :) If you wanted the Dual Tip Catback then it would be $695 shipped. Let me know which one you want!

cavallino33 - These catless exhausts were not ment to pass any kind of smog tests. You must use your own caution to that regards. Let me know if I can help in any manner!

Thanks,
Brian
