so how much more would i pay for an sti if i trade in my 03 wrx?
im thinking about trading in my 03 wrx cuz i want an sti so badly. my 03 currently has about 15k miles and pretty much perfect condition (except a few scuff marks from putting on a front lip). im paying about 300 a month now for 5 yrs. i got about a year payed off already. think i would pay about 200 more a month or so?
shouldnt sti's be a little cheaper now since the 05's should be moving in soon?

Your payments will all depend on your credit score, term, how much down, etc.
Since you've got a five year note at about $300/mo, it doesn't sound like you put down too much on the WRX, so you might be a bit upside down on it. I went through this earlier this week with two seperate dealers. My '03 with 21,000 miles and in super duper condition is going for $15,000 - $18,500 at the auctions. You'll probably get low balled at first on your trade, so you'll have to fight to get the most you can for that, which really shouldn't be too hard considering '03s are still selling on dealer lots for >$20k.
Then you'll have to work with the dealership on the cost of the STi. The first dealer I went to (Autowest Subaru) was willing to give me $750 off MSRP just to start (I could've bargained down with them I'm sure..I did on my WRX). The second dealer I went to tried to start me off with the STi at $37k (I nearly laughed straight out the front door).
So, your payments will depend on:
1. What you get in trade for your car
1a. If the amount you get pays off your current loan. If not, you'll roll the "negative equity" in to the cost of the STi. This is a bad way to go unless it's only a few hundred because you'll instantly be WAY upside down on your car.
2. Amount you pay for the STi.
3. Term of loan
4. Interest rate.
You should be able to get 6 year financing on the STi and a decent rate if your credit holds up. The Subaru 1.9% offer doesn't apply to the STi, so dont' hold your breath for it. The only way you'll really know your payments will be to go to a bank or to the dealer, work out the deal and figure the payments once you've got the deal set. If you finance the whole thing, you're looking at > $500/mo for sure.

i sell cars @ kaneohe subaru(i must have said that a 1,000 times...
) sonic pretty much hit it right. i'll tell u some "extra" stuff that i'm not neccesarilly supposed to say... but who cares i think everyone in here is wise enough anyhow.
1- this is a simple guideline from kbb.com around 18k trade in
value(kbb won't allow a link
keep in mind that the dealer
can easily sell it for around 21-23k. just depends on wheteher
not they want to give u that much or not.(most dealers are
okay with just a 2-3k profit margin on used cars)
2- you might be able to ask 2000 off msrp(it depends on what
the dealer is willing to do). basically get an invoice off kbb.com
u gotta go to new car pricing . from
there you can offer a "fair" price
one good thing going for you is that subarus are very strong in resale value. here in hawaii we can sell an 03(in perfect cond) for full kbb retail. because u only paid one year. . . a downpayment of some decent amount is ideal(depending on your credit) the main thing is you want to owe less than what the value is.
if u have any questions u are more than welcome to call me

To ASpec818...how much do you owe? Sounds like at best you might be about even (trade in value = pay off)....so think about it like you're taking a new loan out for the whole price of the STi.

Good luck.
i got my STi from Subaru Santa Cruz, the price was 29,900 + options + T&L,
out the door it was: 32,999
here is the research did for quotes when i got my car, this is not the best price you can get out there, but it was good enough for me.

I don't know about you, but I'd think people would agree with me here that they could just as easily get a brand new model for that money (not sure how much they go for in Hawaii though). Why pay that much for a used car, unless the person really really really wants the bug eye look?
But yah like Mexicanpizza said, the trade in value here in CA is pretty low. Stock used wrx's will go for around $15k, plus or minus depending on mileage.
