Removing paint protector residue

Ok one final question and I'll stop. My '04 has got residue all over it from where the paint protection stickers (for lack of better term) were on the body. Can anyone suggest a good mild solvent which will take this off and not totally kill the clear coat, or paint? I was thinking denatured alcohol but I am worried about it damaging the finish. I tried searching the forums and had no luck. Also what wax does everyone here seem to prefer? Thanks!

this is the little black lines of adhesive from the protective sheeting on the paint? I used a cleaner wax to remove it.
