I need opinions and numbers
I have been planning to own an impreza for about two years now. I wanna do this right. Right now i can easily afford a 93-96 impreza (I would get a manual AWD)
I have 2 choices.
Save for a 2.5RS (spend about 11-12k). Rebuild engine, put a turbo on it, change some suspesnion, and add a few things here and there. (want about 250 HP)
Buy an impreza and swap out engine. Throw in a 2.5 engine, turbo it, and Change tons on it. (also want about 250 HP) I could even through in an sti Engine... but i dont even wanna know what i would have do to the car when it comes to ebing able to handle 300 hp.
From a money stand point (labor isnt to big of an issue..... other then dropping the engine in... i got most of it covered.)
which is better? I would rather get a 2.5 rs (mainly because it would be a 98-2k and i would have less to change on it)

turbo charging a non-turbo motor is never a good idea if you are on a budget.
For about the same price you could buy a used WRX. Install a nice exhaust and boost controller and viola, you're about 250HP.
Really, a used RS is about 13000.
Add turbo kit of AT LEAST 4000 (if you think you are going to spend less you are lying to yourself)
And that's 17000.... plus any suspension stuff you want to do... etc etc.

The budget way to a fast Scoobie is to buy the cheapest AWD manual you can find, drop an EJ20 in it with minor mods (easy 250 hp) and do your suspension mods. If you can do the labor yourself, particularly wiring, you can easily do this for under $10k.

97 is when the body style changed slightly (headlights, grill, bumper, etc.) but there arent a whole lot of differences. As far as suspensions are concerned, you can get a rather good setup for under $1000, or just throw on a used RS suspension for ~$100 which is always a good option (and what I started out with)
