View Full Version : indiglow gauge installation instructions?
macao_friend 12-29-2003, 03:08 PM Hi, does anyone have the indiglo gauge installation instruction? I bought a used one and it didn't come with instructions. I checked here and on scoobymods but couldn't come up with any hits.
TIA
Johnny
Zoeb2s 12-29-2003, 04:10 PM u take off the trim around the gauge cluster by unscrewing the 2 screws at the top, then there are some screws that hold the actual gauge cluster in, take those off then the whole cluster will come out. Then to take the top clear plastic part off the cluster there are a couple of clips (and maybe screws) take those off and pull the clear plastic off then slide the gauge faces OVER the needles ( DO NOT TAKE OFF THE NEEDLES). Then hook up the power (Red wire) to the parking light switch and ground the black wire.

macao_friend 12-29-2003, 08:19 PM do you have more info on how to connect the power to the parking switch?
Thanks,
-Johnny

hmm, Im not sure, I might be able to find out for u though, I think its the white wire, but test it first.

macao_friend 12-29-2003, 09:52 PM I guess my first problem is that I am not sure which is the parking switch. Is it the smaller one in the pic? The pic was taken from underneath the steering column. If so, then I guess the power is the white/red cable. So I should just cut some plastic off of that cable, solder the red cable from the gauge onto the white/red one, electrical tape it and ground the black one and put everything back together right?
I should've taken school more seriously...
Thanks Zoeb!
Zoeb2s 12-29-2003, 10:08 PM I wouldn't tap the white/red wire as that is probably an ignition wire and u dont want these on constantly.
Get a test light or a multi meter and test it by turning your headlights on and off till you find the correct wire.

Zoeb2s 12-29-2003, 10:11 PM K after talkin to a couple of people for you I learned that their should be a source at the cluster itself so check the wires that are going INTO the cluster.

macao_friend 12-30-2003, 09:30 PM Zoeb,
Thanks a ton man, I got it to work! Basically, I followed your instructions, but I tapped the power from the Cruise Control connector. It's the plug that plugs into the Cruise Control button. Wire #5 and mine is purple.
Thanks again for all your help!

Johnny

Cool, glad to see you got it to work.
Now post pics! ;)

STIwannabe 12-31-2003, 09:23 AM I am doing the same project today and I found the purple wire on the cruise control but where did you ground the black wire?
And yes I'm a noob.
Thanks, Rob
macao_friend 12-31-2003, 09:26 AM There is a 10mm bolt that's right in the middle. I am assuming you took the lower panel thingy off underneath the cluster. If you did, then you can't miss it. I also cable-tied the power inverter behind that bolt. There is an area that fits it perfectly. But you can ground that off on any metal part.
STIwannabe 12-31-2003, 09:31 AM Thanks for the fast response. That sounds like a perfect place for the inverter and grounding. Now I have to take the lower panel off, I just removed the fuse box cover off and pull the cruise control plug out. Where did you mount the switch?
-Rob
macao_friend 12-31-2003, 09:37 AM I just taped the switch inside the fuse box cover because once I settled my color and my brightness, I don't think I will ever mess with it. Even if I did want to change it, all I do is open up the fuse box cover and change it. But now I want to tape it on the outside, using one of the extra slots next to the CC button. I think I'd file the button cover's top part just slightly so the switch cable could be routed through. Just a thought. Good luck man and like what people say, take your time sliding the gauge on and don't take off the needles.
STIwannabe 12-31-2003, 09:40 AM I think the fuse box cover is the best area for the switch. Thanks again for your help. I'm back to work.:D

STIwannabe 01-03-2004, 12:05 PM Need help! I installed the indiglo gauge cluster and it lights up, but now my speedometer and tachometer do not work. I did not remove the needles, I just move them a little to get the gauge face on. Both the gas and temp gauge work. Any ideas?:(

macao_friend 01-03-2004, 05:39 PM Only thing I could think of is that the area around the needle is not totally flat. Did you double side tape the area around the needle? I had to use some thin 3M double side tape to tape those area so when the needles move, they don't tough the gauge. Good luck.

There are quite a few plugs on the back of the cluster, push it back a little just to ensure that all the plugs have contact. The speedometer and tach plugs may be a little loose.

STIwannabe 01-04-2004, 12:53 PM Thanks for the advise. I took the cluster apart and noticed that the needles were push in to far. Went I pulled them out a little, they started recentering themselves. :D Now I need to use some doublesided tape on the speedometer because is sticking at 40mph.
Here is a picture of the instrument cluster when it was broken.
