JDM = Japanese Domestic Market
EDM = European Domestic Market

JDM lights have the RHD E-Code beam pattern, like this-

\__ \__

It's wrong for the US where we drive on the right side of the road so the rising pattern to the left means less light for you where you need it, and more glare for opposing traffic.

EDM lights have the correct LHD E-Code pattern, like this-

__/ __/

Also the EDM lights incorporate leveling motors, the JDMs do not except in the very expensive HID version. It's not necessary to connect and use the motor for the lights to work properly, they can still be aimed manually and left alone. In order to use the motors you have to get the proper harness and switch, or make something up.

AFAIK Subydude only carries the EDM/LHD lights and not the JDMs. He is a reputable and highly regarded vendor.

Ok I guess SD does also sell the JDMs.
Sorry but despite what your friend says there is definitely a difference in the light patterns. Have either of you actually compared LHD and RHD lights, or are you just assuming that "since you can see the road it's ok"?
Physical fitment on US '02-03 Imprezas is direct bolt-on, for the wiring you either need to get or make an adapter harness, or cut and splice the car wiring (not recommended if you can avoid it).

......so the case of STI and WRX is the same but a different in the wires...????
to me is ok I like electricity and if I get it I will make an harness;
and yes I never ride the car of my friend to see what you said so the next time i meet my friend we will make some test....
anyway thanx

The actual wiring of the lights themselves is identical for the JDMs and EDMs. The only difference is the EDMs have the leveling motors which you need to wire separately if you want to use them.
They are not a direct plug-in replacement for the stock headlights, the stock lights use a single bulb with a 9007 connector. The JDM/EDMs have separate bulbs for low and high beam, and the connectors are different.

Mulder,

Got a question for ya... you say that you have to wire separately if you want to use the motor... Couldn't you just by the leveling switch... about $75 and then buy the harness, and hook it up that way? If not that stinks, but I would think that the stock harness plus leveling motor would work flawlessly with them?

Please correct me if I am wrong though.

On a side note, just went to subydude's website and all I see are his RHD headlights.. I don't see the first post's pictures or anything like that..?

Thanks :-)

You should be able to do the leveling motor setup that way, I haven't actually done any myself. I was just making the point that the wiring of the motors is totally independent from the wiring of the headlights themselves and is in fact not required for their operation.
Don't know why you can't find those lights on his site, he defintely had them for sale. He currently has a thread going on NASIOC, didn't look here but might be one as well.

Does anyone know the connector for the brown connector? Or should I say does anyone know what type of plug would go in the brown connector? I have seen harnesses that you buy but you have to SPLICE into wires... just wondering where you would get a plug so you could actually just put the wires through and plug it directly into the brown connector...
