i have been thinking about doing hte 3/16 mod on the sti, but i have not reflashed me ecu, and it pings for about 3/4 second. do you guys think i should reflash or leave it the way it is until i get utec or xede ecu in. also is it bad i i do the 3/16 mod right now? because i am thinking that the 3/16 mod will make my car ping more. correct me if i am wrong =)

Ok an even newer newbe question. What is the 3/16 mod? I haven't heard of this before.

You should get the factory reflash done before doing any future mods, as you will eventually be required to. Plus, if you were to be using an EcuTek reflash or an Xede, or any other engine management that utilizes the stock ECU, it will throw off that tuning map.

The 3/16 mod is essentially a very inexpensive manual boost controller that gives you 1-2 psi more. Search for it here and at nasioc and be prepared to wade through a lot of posts.

Meaning have the car in the exact condition it was when you bought it? Well, nothing.

check the pic. The mod is when you replace the inline coupling and "T" with 3/16" ones from any auto parts store. Im still a bit confused about how this mod is supposed to work since the brass restrictor thats tucked into the hose right in front of the turbo is WAY more restrictive than either the oem "T" or coupling, but people here swear it works:confused:

Thanks for that Krinkov. Now, knowing what were talking about, Dashiet, it would cause the car to ping even more, as you said it's already pinging, raising the boost by doing the "3/16" would only exaserbate the problem. You probably already know this but your last post left me a little woried. Pinging is when the fuel inside the cilinder explodes instead of burning, This can cause catastrophic engine failure. If you ever get pinging do whatever you can to make it stop. I would get the ECU reflashed ASAP, even if you get a XEDE or UTEC that would fix it later your still doing damage now.
