how much did u guys drop for the downpayment on your sti?
i'm thinking 1/3 of the total cost (around 10k) is sufficent for managable montlhy payments (below $550 a month)

A good rule I learned is to put down one third or more. That way you will never be up side down on your loan.

It also depends on what your financing will be like. For my credit union, in order to get the 4.5%APR, I have to put down 20% of the total sale (about $33000), so roughly $6600, and my payments would be about $420/ mo.

Ditchhanger, is your credit bad? I gave an STi customer 3.79%!

Um...no...my credit is actually quite good. I don't want to spend time shopping for awesome interest rates (i.e lower than 4.5%), our dealership hewre doesn't do much with financing (they like it more if you have your own pre-qualification), and I have been with my credit union for almost 10 years. Nothing to do with my credit score or anything like that. :)
