how do you know if you have a leak in your exhaust system? right now, i'm getting this slight whining noise when i accelerate slowly. it sounds similar to the turbo but a lot quieter. does anyone know if this sound is normal or do i have a leak somewhere? btw, it was installed at gruppe-s, not by my incompetent little self.

I installed my HKS exhast myself...
I'm not sure but I do have a very faint noise like that that I thought was coming from the transmission. if it is coming from the turbo and you have a DP as well it may be from the turbo...
anywho the best way to check for a leak is to jack the car up.. let it run at idle and put a towel over the exhaust tip. this will create lots of back pressure without choking it and thus making it easier to listen/feel for leaks.
also after installing and driving for a week or so the bolts should be checked. some times they come a little loose after settling in (much like when you buy new wheels).
Mine didn't come loose but you're might have....
anyway good luck ")

which bolts should i try to retighten? do i definetely have to jack up my car to tighten up all the bolts? im still hearing this slight whistling noise when i accelerate slowly. sorta like 40% throttle
At how many rpm are you hearing this? I think it might just be your turbo. After i installed my dp, i definitely could hear the whine of my turbo spooling up, and also the fluttering of my wastegate really easily, even with the stereo on. Just in case though, i'd check all the bolts and nuts that you manipulated to do the install, especially at the turbo.

im sure it's not the turbo spooling sound because i can tell the difference. the two sounds are distinct but alike. the turbo spool sound is more of a whoossshhhh sound while spooling and the other sound is more of a slight whistling sound.
The woosh is the intake of air into the turbo. That slight wine or wistle is the turbo. Does the noise increase with throttle/boost? If so it is probably just the turbo. I could definately hear mine better after i put on the turbo back. If in doubt take it back to gruppe-s. They will know. If not they might check it for you. Most reputable shops will do this. I had my exhaust installed, i noticed a little banging after about a week. I took it back tand they fixed it for free. The bolts had just lossend a little. All good now after 3 weeks.

If you have an exhaust leak at the down-pipe, it will sort of sound like a bird whistling. If you had it done at Gruppe-S, I'm sure they wouldn't mind taking a look at it. They are pretty cool guys. Sometimes what you want to do on an area that gets pretty hot is to tighten everything up, let the car run so things get somewhat hot, and then torque them again. Make sure you alternate the bolts that you torque. Don't ever tighten just one down all the way and move to the adjacent one. This can warp the gasket and the flang.
