how do you know if you have a leak in your exhaust system? right now, i'm getting this slight whining noise when i accelerate slowly. it sounds similar to the turbo but a lot quieter. does anyone know if this sound is normal or do i have a leak somewhere? btw, it was installed at gruppe-s, not by my incompetent little self.

Is it wastegate noise? Feel around the flange with the engine started and see if you can feel a leak.

At how many rpm are you hearing this? I think it might just be your turbo. After i installed my dp, i definitely could hear the whine of my turbo spooling up, and also the fluttering of my wastegate really easily, even with the stereo on. Just in case though, i'd check all the bolts and nuts that you manipulated to do the install, especially at the turbo.

im sure it's not the turbo spooling sound because i can tell the difference. the two sounds are distinct but alike. the turbo spool sound is more of a whoossshhhh sound while spooling and the other sound is more of a slight whistling sound.

The woosh is the intake of air into the turbo. That slight wine or wistle is the turbo. Does the noise increase with throttle/boost? If so it is probably just the turbo. I could definately hear mine better after i put on the turbo back. If in doubt take it back to gruppe-s. They will know. If not they might check it for you. Most reputable shops will do this. I had my exhaust installed, i noticed a little banging after about a week. I took it back tand they fixed it for free. The bolts had just lossend a little. All good now after 3 weeks.

it's just your turbo, you don't have a leak, you probably hear it at idle too.

Don't worry about it, you normally hear that sound when you get a downpipe installed, it's just your turbo.
