Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Gimme a hand my fellow N/A ers

Ok so I'm ready for an exhuast. I have a few questions because I am absolutley clueless when it comes to what I need. Like everyone, I would like to get maximum performance out of what I buy and want to know what the best way at going about getting the right exhuast is. Here is want I want.

1) A moderately sized tip, nothing so big I can fit a baby's head in. Maybe the size of the stock exhuast or a little bigger if need be.

2) A smooth rumble sound. No "fart can" noise but I want it to be hear when my throttle is wide open. I also don't want it to be obtrusive under normal driving.

3) I don't want to spend more than $250.

Heres another question. Should I get headers before the exhuast or what? I also have no idea about headers.

Should I get the exhuast custom built or the ones that bolt right on? Also does all the piping under the car for the exhuast to the headers need replacing if I want the most power or what?

Sorry for all the questions but I figure I'll get some of them answered.

For $250, you have 2 choices: custom catback with mild steel and a Magnaflow or similar muffler, or sit around and wait for a sweetheart deal on a used setup. Since they basically make the same power, I'd say get the custom. That is what I am running. For the absolute most power, I would recommend MRT headers and any straight-through muffler with 2.25" piping. That can be had for under $600. As for sound, I currently have Borlas and the custom Magnaflow, and I think it sounds incredible. All it needs now is a straight pipe for tracking. However, I was unhappy with the minimal power gains and less than stellar sound with the Borlas and stock exhaust.

I'd try to find a used Stromung muffler in SS. It should be what you are looking for.

I agree, stromung is the way to go for the sound your looking for.
That is what cobb uses , if your looking to spend that much.

I heard they rust well just the steel ones not SS ones. I think what I need is someone to sit down with me and explain what I need to get and how much it will cost.

Thanks for all the help.
