View Full Version : HID help
thaSicness 04-03-2009, 12:18 AM Hey guys,
So im thinking about gettin' some HID's but I have no clue about bulbs and colors.
I know I want to get a good ballast and harness. Any recommendations?
Should I get 8000k? Or is that too much?
And when you get a HID kit does it only include the low beam bulbs? or high as well?
I hope somebody out there can answer all my questions
Thanks in advance!

If i got these hyper white changing LED's which HID's would go well you think? 8000k?
gottaWRX 04-03-2009, 12:47 AM I think 8k is too blue. Takes away visibility. But if you like it get em'..... I have 6k and i think those are too blue!

Can I get something like.. for example;
PIAA 4100k Intense White bulbs non HID without the ballast?
gottaWRX 04-03-2009, 01:52 AM Is it goin on your 08wrx? If that's the case then i believe they already have some type of projector housing so getting hid's with a ballast would be ideal for better output. PIAA is a great brand but kinda pricey.... If i were you i'd just get a hid kit for now if you're tryin to save $.... ddm kits are great and very cheap. i've had mine for 6 months and have had no problems whatsoever with a lifetime warranty on it. hope this helps.....

Wes
Yeah its for my 08.
Makes sense.
If I dont want HID if i simply just want 6k and diff color, i just have to make sure its the same watt as stock right? Which i believe is about 55watt
Thanks alot wes
sigma pi 04-03-2009, 10:12 AM i say for that money just spend a bit more and buy the HID kit

Yeah I added up the money I'd spend on the bulbs and HID seems the way to go.
Any suggestions or links ?
ScoobySon 04-03-2009, 07:58 PM If I remember correctly,
Silverstars use > 55W, and they are safe
The PIAA Plasma's say 55W -> 110W, but I think that just means their brightness or lumans are as bright as 110W $hitty bulbs.

Those are all the stock bulbs in the packing, btw.
All these fit MY09 but the HBs fit both HB3 & HB4. You just need to use the o-ring from the stock bulbs.
IMO, just save up for the HID kit...these bulbs are brighter than stock but HID's are on a whole other level.
ScoobySon 04-03-2009, 08:10 PM Here is some pics of the headlights with 3200K Highs and Lows. Don't be like me, GET HID Lamps.

Have you seen the LED signal lights? They change from white to amber. pretty sick, and cheap!

Ya, those look hella sick. Once, while a cop was writing my first speeding ticket in the wrx, he was asking about my lights and turn signals being illegal, but didn't give me a fix it ticket.
wimprezax06 04-05-2009, 11:27 AM 6000k would be the best choice. looks a little nicer than oem 4300k but not as blue as 8000k which lowers the visibility.
Daios 04-11-2009, 06:24 PM I have HIDs in my 08 from DDMTuning (http://www.ddmtuning.com). works great. I actually have the 4500K ones, but 4500K-5000K should output the most lumens while anything higher gets into the blue/purple area and lose brightness. Simple install. I've installed the Raptor kit on numerous cars already with great results. If you want bright white I'd say 5000K is your best bet.
Heres the direct link to it:
