Thumbs down Great, just what I need AKA: "A metal on metal 'whirring' sound"

So my wife calls me and says the wrx is making a "metal on metal whirring sound" and it "only happens before the car warms up" and then she heard "three electrical short circuit-y kinda sounds"

Evidently, the whirring thing has been going on for a while.

I haven't driven it in a while. It has been the wife's car for a while. What should I look for when I get home? I figured I take a look myself before I drive up to Paul to diagnose since it only happens before it warms up and then goes away.
