Hi All,

I recently purchased an '06 STi. Everything was cool for the first couple of hundred miles and then all of sudden I started getting a strange harmonic/whirring noise at idle. I think the boxer drowns it out as the RPMS go up. I took it to the dealer and the tech told me it was normal engine noise. I'm expecting and hear ticking, rumbling, bumping, sounds, but this new one just doesn't sound right. It's more of a high pitched "woo woo woo woo woo". Anyone have any ideas? Help!

 

You might be hearing the fuel pump. It is located right behind the rear seats and produces a high-pitched whine.

 

I think it's coming from the engine bay. When I get out of the car and lift the hood I can hear it under the hood, but not sure where exactly it is.
