View Full Version : HELP CHEck ENGINE LIGHT ON :(
Subaru_dude 09-04-2008, 10:49 AM Just wandering if there is anyway I can defeat Check Engine light that came on. I was running COBB Stage 2. But I sold my AP and now running without tune and my mods on the car as of right now are HKS up pipe, HKS down pipe << i know. With HKS Carbon Ti Exhaust. Any way that i can make the light go away? .. any HELP appreciated.
VRT MBasile 09-04-2008, 10:53 AM I'm assuming the CEL is the rear o2 sensor? There is both a mechanical and electrical fix. Not sure who sells them anymore.
Mechanical fix is basically a spacer that moves the probe out of the exhaust so it thinks its reading normally.
Electrical fix alters the electrical signal so the computer thinks the probe is reading normally.

VRT MBasile 09-04-2008, 01:52 PM sorry, I was posting from the iPhone before class, so I couldn't type too much.
Gruppe-S (www.gruppe-s.com) carries both fixes but lists the mechanical fix as being for 2005+ models, and I can't tell from your avatar what year you have but it looks like an 02-03). The electrical fix isn't that hard to do, you just have to unplug the rear o2 sensor, cut the wires, and solder it in. If you're not good at soldering I would have someone that is good do it for you.
Subaru_dude 09-04-2008, 04:11 PM ^^ thx bro i will go to GST and have em install it for me ... its just that light is so annoying at night time ... :(
jam007 09-04-2008, 06:24 PM Bro even easier, two spark plug anti-foulers, 5/8'' drill bit. Drill them out with the 5/8 drill bit and screw the 02 sensor into the anti-foulers and the anti-foulers into the down pipe and reset the ECU. Easy day..
pancho 09-04-2008, 06:27 PM i got the same problem will the fixer fit on an 04 sti
wrxisthebest 09-04-2008, 06:50 PM just buy a spark arrestor, this is also known as the spacer.

Paul@dbtuned 09-17-2008, 08:01 AM Why on earth would you run a modified car on the factory map?
What is the code that's triggering the CEL?
Shayhan27 09-17-2008, 08:17 AM On my car the o2 sensor is not even plugged in. there is a capacitor you can buy from radio shack. I am not sure what voltage it is but you plug it into the computer side of the connector for the 02 sensor and put some tape over it. This is what works on my 05 wrx. NOTE: your o2 sensor will probably need to be replaced if you run this setup for too long.
Subaru_dude 09-17-2008, 08:36 AM i took it to local shop and they pulled the code ... it says that EGT sensor Bank current High. And i just replaced EGT sensor like last year. And there is no problem with the car itself .... engine runs fine .... stoichometric ratio ... no weird smell from the engine.

Have an 01, with the P0420 code, and I'd like to perform this fix. Electrical - cut the wires and solder the wires together? Directions are not clear. Of course I'm reinstalling the O2 to plug the hole only now it's not connected to anything. Please clarify this fix. The mechanical spacer part I understand - any differences in thread sizes between years?
Nevermind, I've since learned I cannot do the electrical fix since NJ conducts the OBDII readiness test and that fix will cause the car to fail

Is your factory EGT probe being used in the catless upipe??
spelk3 09-19-2008, 03:28 PM The EGT probe fails in a catless uppipe. Get a 2.2k resistor and plug it in the connector where the EGT probe plugs in.
