920 mi, just 80 more under 4K to go.
Ahhh. Lots of cool new creature comforts and roominess but it still seems to perform as well or better. The new vehicle dynamics feature is pretty amazing. At the local Subaru meet we took a test drive. They were discussing replacement tires when I said the oem tires seemed pretty good. The driver said "let's see" and jammed up a 270 onramp (still keeping it under 4k btw). After a moment we all cracked up. "I couldn't make the tires sqeal!" he said.
Take that anecdote for what it's worth. It's fun already but pretty soon I can go for a real run and carve it up some.
As near as I could tell the new Intelligent (I) mode does nothing but weaken performance. It may rely on the shift point alert which generally lights up between 1900 and 2400 rpm. The manual is unclear on the benefits. According to the almost useless avg mileage readout (it calculates for the whole tank as it's consumed), mileage was about the same as in Sport (S) mode. I did my unscientific testing on a 600 mi round trip to Las Vegas. I found the I mode hazardous to use. Stepping on the gas when you really want it and getting no response is always a surprise that totally sucks in an STi. I got 21.3 mpg one way and 19.8 mpg the other but with mixed modes. I will probably forgo saving at most a few measly miles per tank and stay in Sport mode as the default. The 2006 regularly got 23 mpg on that trip and as you know that car is permanently in Sport Sharp (S#). I'll need to calc average mpg the old fashioned way to really know if I can even trust that readout. Btw, when you start the car it will only be in I or S mode, never S#.
The new short shifter is very nice. I don't believe I will go for the Kart Boy shorter throw shifter I had previously.
Oh yeah, my car got the crucial blessing: My wife actually said, "I love this car!" (She pretty much hated the ride in my 2006. Something about her fillings.)

I called my Subaru dealer for a price quote on STi turbo (IHI VF 48) and Perrin TMIC, I wanna get those out the way before I get up-pipe, downpipe, exhuast, and drop in filter. Yeah I know dealer will RAPE me on the prices but if I purchase it thru them they do the install and the work is warrantied which is a nice piece of mind on a car like this.
Mods so far: 3rd party Xm radio lol thats it not really a mod
and I am getting the windows tinted in 2 days
Mods I want to do this summer: Rally armor Mud flaps, Some kind of turbo system not sure if I want an STI or WRX Turbo or a custom front mount intercooler system, Full exhaust system and Headers, access port device, possibly a ecu flash, and possibly skid plates, idk if I can do all of this or if it is all possible but I at least plan to turbo it.

Congrats on your guys Scooby's. I still think they are ugly but to each thier own. One thing I noticed and maybe you guys can get on your fellow 08 owners.
NO SUBIE WAVE MAN:SHOCKED: WTF 08's
You see another subie owner give a wave or a nod or something. DOnt think you are better than us cuz you have a newer, yet uglier, subaru. I love all subies but i think the 06-07 are the best looking ones.
See my car @ www.cardomain.com/id/irish_car_b0mb :peace:
SO as of right now until they change thier attitude towards fellow subie owners, I think they are not one of us.

lol, are we a cult now? Only enthusiasts nod or wave to each other, or people who are on some type of forum. Has nothing to do with what year subie you own. I love the way all of them look. I dont think 08's are the best looking just because I own one. I think every year has something really good about them that stands out. If you are a real subaru enthusiast you dont bash any year or makes. If you want the same looking car for 10 years with a different body kit then get a mustang. Everyone thought the 06's were butt ugly when they came out but we all love em now. :thumb:

Everyone loved the 06's and 07's dude. A lot of people hate the 08's look at the poll i started.
And if you werent an enthusiast why would you be on a forum about these cars. Yes i am a real enthusiast, but yes i hate the 08's body style. And no not only "enthusiast" wave to each other cuz i see everyone out there (mainly north bay cuz thats all i drive) waving to each other. Unless its an 08 im passing everyone waves. The 08's are the only ones i never see wave. i have heard this from many people. Maybe its cuz they are new to the community, and thats fine. But for those who have been previous owners thats no excuse. Where is the team spirit huh. Maybe we could be considered a cult of some sort. We arent as crazy as the Bimmer people, but we have our fair share of die-hard fans.
I think subaru will lose a lot of sales with the look of the 08's and I will be ashamed to related to the 09 if what I saw is really gonna be what it looks like.:peace:

You made a poll about it? Have you been abused by an '08? WOW!!! You know what they say..."if you don't have anything nice to say..."

Hmm agree with your opinions on the body style. I would say I'm an enthusiast but I have negative opinions about the 08 aesthetics. I think styling went downhill ever since 04-05 and even that car wasn't very pleasing. However I think Subaru will sell them regardless if they're subjectively ugly or not.

OMG, I got a new bumper, painted it, and repainted my hood and rear doors.
One trip to tahoe and there are already rock chips in all of them, one deep enough in the hood it went to metal. Time to repaint and put a clear bra on this time
