920 mi, just 80 more under 4K to go.

Ahhh. Lots of cool new creature comforts and roominess but it still seems to perform as well or better. The new vehicle dynamics feature is pretty amazing. At the local Subaru meet we took a test drive. They were discussing replacement tires when I said the oem tires seemed pretty good. The driver said "let's see" and jammed up a 270 onramp (still keeping it under 4k btw). After a moment we all cracked up. "I couldn't make the tires sqeal!" he said.

Take that anecdote for what it's worth. It's fun already but pretty soon I can go for a real run and carve it up some.

As near as I could tell the new Intelligent (I) mode does nothing but weaken performance. It may rely on the shift point alert which generally lights up between 1900 and 2400 rpm. The manual is unclear on the benefits. According to the almost useless avg mileage readout (it calculates for the whole tank as it's consumed), mileage was about the same as in Sport (S) mode. I did my unscientific testing on a 600 mi round trip to Las Vegas. I found the I mode hazardous to use. Stepping on the gas when you really want it and getting no response is always a surprise that totally sucks in an STi. I got 21.3 mpg one way and 19.8 mpg the other but with mixed modes. I will probably forgo saving at most a few measly miles per tank and stay in Sport mode as the default. The 2006 regularly got 23 mpg on that trip and as you know that car is permanently in Sport Sharp (S#). I'll need to calc average mpg the old fashioned way to really know if I can even trust that readout. Btw, when you start the car it will only be in I or S mode, never S#.

The new short shifter is very nice. I don't believe I will go for the Kart Boy shorter throw shifter I had previously.

Oh yeah, my car got the crucial blessing: My wife actually said, "I love this car!" (She pretty much hated the ride in my 2006. Something about her fillings.)

I called my Subaru dealer for a price quote on STi turbo (IHI VF 48) and Perrin TMIC, I wanna get those out the way before I get up-pipe, downpipe, exhuast, and drop in filter. Yeah I know dealer will RAPE me on the prices but if I purchase it thru them they do the install and the work is warrantied which is a nice piece of mind on a car like this.
