Got road tuned by Ed today and I am thoroughly impressed and satisfied. My car is finally making the power I wanted from the beginning and pulls incredibly hard. Now I truly realize what "smooth turbo power" really is! :thumb:
Mods for 04 STi:
stock vf39 IWG
generic bellmouth dp
perrin CBE
GM 3 port boost solenoid
stock fuel pump
stock injectors
NGK one step colder sparkplugs
I know, the torque on this is insane. Ed thought I had aftermarket headers!
dam Ed is a mastermind when it comes to our suby's! I have yet to see a diappointed review. keep up the good work Ed, i'll be coming to you once I get some more mods done :D

Yup, Ed is the man! He tuned my stock turbo STi, made 294 tq / 272 hp on a catted setup....I need to go catless and get some aftermarket boost control... Im jealous of the torque!!
BTW, how much boost?
Enjoy! :)

Peak boost was set at 20psi. AFR was at 10.5:1 to be on the safe side.

Welcome to the club - I got my tune a few weeks back before he headed south. It was fun doing those 100 mph runs - it got there real fast and there was more to be had!

Ah the power of graph smoothing, gotta love fake smooth power!
All graphs use some form of smoothing, this doesn't mean that the power is not smooth. Road dyno plots use smoothing especially because the data is relatively slow and noisy. It still provides plenty of resolution, however, to identify problem spots in the power band. Here's an 07 STI with a Cobb Stage 2 OTS map for example (not so smooth):
As you can see, torque hits late and there is quite a bit of timing being pulled around 5000-6000RPM due to knock. This is of course reflected by the big dip in the graph.
So while my graphs do look smooth, it takes quite a bit of work to get them that way and its not just a result of using smoothing algorithms. The really important part, however, is how the cars feel. Just about every one of my customers comments on how smooth the tunes feel. Many of them have been to other tuners as well so they have something to compare to ;).
Thanks

hahahha , i guess my numbers are also fake. dont forget ED is the one thats tuned the fastest stock turbo sti in nation and is the only one in the 11s with stock turbo..
im made 277whp 320wtq. ED's road dyno i ran mid 12s without really trying.. i guess ED's road dyno numbers are fake..

are you mad because your horsepower and torque number are T!NY? do you even know what you are looking at? at high RPM torque is dropping and HP takes over, all along the way. maybe your definition of smooth is different.

I don't think T!NY is accusing Ed of faking numbers, more that Ed uses a higher "smoothing" filter.
Here are two dyno plots of Ed's car on my dyno.
The first is using the default smoothing filter value of 11 that most shops use.
The second is using the highest smoothing filter value of 99.

the 'jig' is up.
Maybe i should start road tuning with masssive smooth maps. I know how to redraw.

 what "jig"? Paul chose to post a dyno graph from over a year ago of my car that was poorly strapped down on his, at the time, temperamental dyno. Back when I was using it, that dyno would read completely differently from day to day... not to mention that cars were getting strapped down sideways causing vibrations. How about the busted bearing in the idler pulley on those massive belts of the Mustang dyno?
Paul, I'm not too sure what point you're trying to make by posting this, but if you'd like me to publicly go into more detail of what went at your shop at the time I was working with you, I'd be happy to do so in another thread.
Thanks

Hmm... Yes, I'd like to take you up on your offer to meet up. I'll also forward your offer to Hardeep, who I'd imagine would love to speak with you.

I posted the two graphs simply to show the difference(s) that smoothing has on exactly the same car, same tune, same day, etc.
Nothing malicious, just information.
Am I supposed to feel hurt by your "broken bearing" comment?
Equipment that is used wears out.
Parts need replacing.
And that's what happened; bearing failed...bearing repaired.
And as far as you insinuation of me producing poor workmanship, I dare you to go public.

Terrific, thanks for sharing the information.
I wouldn't expect you to feel hurt by the bearing comment any more than I was hurt by your post... its just information right?
I didn't insinuate anything specifically about your workmanship and I don't respond to grade school "dares". If you have an issue with me or my work please feel free to contact me.

This cracks me up. I was the first tuner in the bay area to use 3-port solenoids and taught some others how to install and tune them ;)
