I want to mod my Legacy 03 but have no clue where to start or how to get the parts...

Hey all, I'm new to this forum and it looks great!

Anyway, I've had a legacy L 03 since, well...2003 and I think its time to start tinkering around with it. Now, I'm not much of a car guru, I'm more into the electronics part. So thats my question(s).

I've been looking all over the place for some thing for the inside of my car but I can't seem to find the items or answers so I figured I would come here to see if anyone is willing to help me. Anyway heres what I've been trying to find out.

1. I really like the impreza's seats (the ones with the blue stripe going down the center). I was wondering if they are compatible with the legacy seats. I would really like to have "racing" like seats in the subi, even if it takes 10 seconds to get to 40 mph

2. I saw someone hook a apple computer up to a touch screen in his subaru. I was wondering if there are places that sell custom dashboards for this sort of thing. When I say custom dashs, I mean the center of the dash, where the ac/heat controls are and where the cd player is. Again, I've very bad with car terms right now, but I'm learning!

3. I've been trying and trying to find custom gauge plates for the legacy. For example, I want to change the lights of the numbers on the speedometer when it gets dark out, is this an easy procedure? Also, I would like to order a body kit and custom lights for the legacy. (I would like it to look fast, but not be fast..hehe)

4. I know this is far-fetched, but its a pet peeve of mine...this car has been abused on the inside where the seat belt hits the side of the car inside when one takes it off. The plastic where it hits is in bad shape and I need to find a place where they have parts for this.

This subaru legacy 03 will be my big project this upcoming summer. I would like to get all the parts ( or at least know where to get them) before summer comes upon us. If any one has good tips or websites that sell nice legacy 03 custom stuff, please let me know. All the searching I've done I only came up with stock parts to replace things.

Again thanks for everyones help, if you are confused on what I'm asking, just tell me and I'll try to clear things up with either words...or pictures of the car. Thanks!

Let me get some quick responses based on what you're asking and we can go from there.

1. Impreza seats will bolt right in with no problems.
2. There's no aftermarket panels I'm aware of, but you should have a double-din opening that you can put an LCD into in a slide-out housing if necessary.
3. Guage overlays don't exist for your bodystlye as far as I'm aware, they'd have to be custom. As for bodykits, there's not many options, as it's not a "tuner" car in the US and doesn't have a market for kits, and any Japanese manufactured kits are going to be designed for different bumpers and bumper reinforcements.
4. That B-pillar trim piece can be ordered from the dealer with no problem if you need a new piece; I'd think most cars in salvage yeards would have similar wear.

Welcome to the club!

Wow thanks for the quick response!

1. Sweet, what about the back seats, will they bolt in with ease as will? Gotta have matching seats haha.

2. Thanks what I was thinking of doing. Most likely what I will do if I can find a cheap macintosh computer on ebay.

3. Thats not cool. My one buddy told me that some cars have a light that I can change from the green to either blue or red. Does my 03 legacy have that bulb outlet behind the dash that you know of, if not...I'll just have to rip it apart and check.

4. Awesome, I forgot to even ask them, hah. And I'm sure theres a salvage yard not far from my house so maybe I can find some good deals there.

--Again, thanks for your help. Would you know if its possible to change the wheel to either a custom one, or an impreza sti one? If you haven't noticed, I really wanted an impreza but could only afford the legacy, haha. Also, whats your preference on tinting the windows?

Edit: I'm also looking for Morette headlights for the legacy...and i cant seem to find any on google...do they make them?? Gosh so many questions!!

Back seats may fit with a bit of tinkering, but the Legacy is a bigger car, so even if the bolts lined up, I'd think you'd have some gaps.

On the gauges, most Subaru componenets have an overlay bult into the display surface that you'd have to sand off or something (green) and would run the risk of destroying the face. Using bulb covers would result in some weird color changes.

As far as steering wheels, aftermarket is tough, because most hubs for momo/sparco/etc that are available here are designed for non-airbag cars. This means they don't work with the clockspring that allows for signal cancels, cruise, and horns. There's a way to make the horn work with one of those hubs (i've done it) but it's ghetto (it involved a ballpoint pen clip ). Most Japanese hubs have a cutout so you can use the clockspring, and one of the ones I tracked down has enough space in the center that I fit my cruise module in as well. Unfortunately, they're tough to track down (took me months to finally find one, and even then, it was a cheap ebay chance that I took and got lucky.). An Impreza or STi wheel will bolt on with no problems, and I beleive your airbag connectors should match up too.

If you go with an aftermarket wheel, make sure you check with your insurance company. Mine just wanted proof I didn't have an airbag in the wheel so they wouldn't have to replace it in a claim, but some companies will void medical coverage for "tampering with safety devices." That's an expensive mistake if something happens.

Here's my Momo Daytona Carbon in my 97 (previous body style) (you can also see an old set of seats, '05 WRX seats.)

Morette doesn't make a fitment for the BE/BH (00-04, sedan/wagon) cars, only the BD/BG (95-99) like these (again, on my car)

The only projector retrofit lights I've seen for the BE's are made by Cibie, are HID, havea lot of empty space because the beam elemnts are the same size as mine in a much bigger light housing, and, most importantly, run over 3 grand if you can actually find them in Japan (special order only).

So, good news and bad news, but at least ya know now.
