Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Question Help With Changinf My Idle Speed On My '05!

I put in cams and the idle is 'lumpy' but the car runs great. My ECM cannot be set for idle speed ('07 you can). It is 'fly by wire' so there is no cable to screw with. I need to lift the idle speed from the OEM position of 500-600 rpms. At this low of speed I can watch the 'misfire' cell go out for all 4 holes. At 800 rpm and above the cells are not thrown!

So, I thought the answer was to change the 'bump stop' height on the pedal assembly, easy right? NOT. I need help for another solution:

I pulled the gas pedal assembly and it was very simple to change the 'bump stop' to have the pedal remaining pushed down a bit to give a 'mechanical idle' that should of got by the ECM... Nylon hammer attached to the gas pedal is slammed shut with two springs. There is a nylon wafer in there acting as the 'off' position for the gas pedal. Should be a simple matter of adding some material to the nylon, right?

*See photo below!*

With the ECM dialed into the 500-600 RPM idle I added material to the stopper (nylon).

I started with a small sticky circle felt pad (used for under ash trays, lamps... that sort of thing). Used the smallest (thinnest) one. RPM's jumped to 3200. TOO much!

Then went to a small sticky circle of VelcroŽ... felt side 1st (2800 rpm)... the hook side (2000 rpm).

Then tried a very thin piece if plastic, again 2000 rpm.

Then a small circle Band AidŽ, down to 1500 rpm.

Then one die-cut sticker (just happened to have a circle), again 1500 rpm!

Did it again with nothing. Back to 500-600 rpm.

So I bailed on that strategy. It was never lower then 1500 rpm with anything on the stop!

I decided to go back to the VelcroŽ route and see if I reset the ECM to the 'new stopper' that might be the way. Went to the 'hooks' side for this. The car when I started it back up was trying desperately to '0' out my stopper. It swung wildly from 300 rpm to 1200 rpm and NEVER settled down. Went for a drive anyways... where ever the peak RPM was at a shift (when I would leave the clutch depressed) it would hold open. Same if I blipped the throttle to 4500, when I got back to the stop, the rpms stayed right at 4500!

So, mechanical fix doesn't look like it can be done...?

But I did figure out how to make it idle @ 900 RPMs!!!

When the air compressor kicks on for the AC, it send a signal to the ECM and it kicks the idle up 300 RPMs. Now, I need someone who can tell me which sensor wire it is on the compressor that goes to report to the ECM and what ohm the signal is that is thrown to the ECM. It seems it can be solved just like the resistor fix for the rear 02 sensor when you are running catless (with a PEP/resistor telling the ECM what it wants to hear)!!!

Now to find someone smarter then me to help with this matter! Any electrical gurus that might be able to help with the AC fix, or...?
