Well it will be a couple years before the prices of the ps3 will go down, but I have a feeling that when they do go down. It won't be much, not sure how much the games will cost though. I don't like the wii's controller, it looks like a tv remote

how controllers will the wii come with? Every new game system comes with 1 controller, I think the snes was the last system to come with 2 controllers. I'll drop the $600 for the system, but so far I haven't seen what games will be available on the day it comes out. As for the wii games, I only seen a screen shot of the new mario game.

I'm in no hurry anymore. I think i'll wait for the smoke to clear a bit after PS3's release to get it.

Wii will have 30 titles by end of December. The controllers look different, but the game interaction and capabilities of the console are pretty sweet.

I got to a GameStop in Whittier at 6:45 this morning. There were already 5 people waiting. 4 Chinese guys that have been there since 3am and a white guy playing his DS Lite since 5am. Later on a grandma came to wait for her grandson and then another guy after that. When the store employee arrived at 9:30 he told us that they would only have 8 core systems available. The guy infront of me at that point left to check out another GameStop. When the employee came back outside he first asked me and the 4 other Chinese guys if any of us were related (due to 1 ps3 per household)... that question was pretty funny to me cause we were all Chinese. He then said that they only had 5 pre-orders available. I barely made it cause the guy in front of me left. I'm probably still going to camp out on the launch date. Anyone want to buy a core system? Hahahaha!

and if you're gonna skip these two and look at a 360 instead, outpost.com is having a special on the xbox 360 premium + 3 games (saints row, dead rising, test drive unlimited). when this special originally went up this past sunday, it was priced at $359.86 (the premium alone costs $399.99). i put an order in for one, but it turns out it was cancelled due to a pricing error. damnit! the word is they are going to repackage this bundle (it's a promotion for their anniversary sale) and come out with an even better one. the deal is supposed to go up at midnight EST this thursday or friday.

I voted PS3 because of the next Gran Turismo and Grand Theft Auto...but damn the price.

PS3 even though new systems always have bugs i would still go for the PS3 I like sony that much.

sony says 200 or so PS2 games have compatibility problems on the PS3. but with their library of near 8,000 games, this accounts to only like 2-3% of games that don't work. then again some of the more notable games (like final fantasy 12, tekken 5, Grand theft auto) all have audio problems and random game freezes. im sure it will smooth out with firmware patches, so back to the trusty PS2...

i played some off road racing game at a ps3 kiosk last night. dunno what it was called, but the racing physics wasn't that bad and was actually pretty fun to play. maybe it was burnout or colin rally? all i know is that it looked freakin great. that and the soundtrack was rockin some track from pendulum.... whoa :D

I played a basketball game at Target. People kept saying wow look at the graphics. Even my g/f. I lost 26-0.

Wii update bricking systems? Source: A pair of message board threads from Nintendo's official forums, supplemented by other reports from around the Web.

What we heard: Last month, some Xbox 360 owners downloaded the Fall Update to the system's dashboard only to find that it had turned their systems into a giant paperweight. Now it appears that one of the first system updates to the Nintendo Wii has similarly affected a portion of the fledgling console's user base, and Nintendo's official forums have attracted numerous reports of broken Wiis.

Apparently the systems in question began exhibiting problems immediately after downloading updates from the WiiConnect 24 service. Specifically, the systems begin giving out the error code "110213." Several of the posters reported getting through to Nintendo's customer service, only to be told that the problem couldn't be fixed from their end and the consoles would need to be sent in to Nintendo for repairs at the company's expense.

According to the Wii error code troubleshooting page, the troubleshooting advice given for that particular error code is to call Nintendo customer service at (800) 255-3700 to resolve the issue.

It appears that some people are having issues with their systems as a result of the update, but the game giant's lack of comment--or even acknowledgement--of the complaints makes it hard to judge the scope of the problem. Nintendo's customer service line has been bogged down for much of the day, insisting that callers try to reach service representatives at some later time when they aren't so busy.

While GameSpot hasn't been able to confirm the Wii-bricking firsthand--all units in the office run smoothly--problems like this are far from unprecedented. Add to that Nintendo's relative inexperience with releasing online firmware updates, and it's not surprising that a glitch affecting a small percentage of Wii users could slip through.

The official story: As of press time, a Nintendo representative had not returned GameSpot's requests for comment.

In the months leading up to the launch of the PlayStation 3 and Wii, barely a week went by without one analyst or another issuing proclamations of doom or promises of riches for both Sony and Nintendo. Now that both consoles are on the market, many investment firms' in-house game-industry experts are giving their assessments of the two companies' fortunes.

The prognostication reached a fever pitch today, when Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) shuffled its executive lineup. Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) president Kaz Hirai took over the position of SCE president Ken Kutaragi, who was promoted to SCE chairman and retained the title of SCE group CEO. Hirai will also be SCE's chief operating officer, and will relocate to Sony's Tokyo headquarters from SCEA's HQ in Foster City, California.

While Sony spun the changes as a "strengthening" of its executive team, many analysts saw it as a vote of no confidence for Kutaragi's stewardship of the PlayStation 3. The high-tech console's Blu-ray laser drive has been plagued by component manufacturing woes, which drastically limited supply of the console for its Japanese and North American launches, and delayed its European debut until 2007.

Some analysts went one step further, taking Hirai's succession as a harbinger of doom. No one was more pessimistic than Nomura Securities' Yuta Sakurai, who made the astounding prediction that the PlayStation 3 would be the last console Sony, the current console market-share leader, would ever make.

"The appointment of Hirai could be the start of a shift from hardware to software," said Sakurai. "I cannot now imagine a PlayStation 4." According to the Financial Times, Sakurai's reasoning is that "Hirai's new global portfolio puts a predominantly software-focused manager in charge of the company." His logic is reportedly that, with the emphasis moving to software, Sony would go the way of Sega, transforming from a console maker to a mere game publisher.

Critics were quick to point out that, despite its problems, Sony is primarily an electronics manufacturer, and has invested billions in the research and development of the PS3's technology. Despite the hyperbolic tone of Sakurai's comments, SCEA publicity chief Dave Karraker issued a polite response. "Following the launch of the PlayStation 3 just a few weeks ago, and witnessing the huge consumer demand for the product, I think it would be rather short-sighted for anyone to predict there might not be a next generation of PlayStation product," he told GameSpot.
