Unhappy Diagnosis needed: Rear Rotors scraping against metal just below e-brake

Hey folks,

I have a 2002 WRX, and after 115k miles, I've noticed that if i take a turn hard and fast (see: donuts), i hear this rotational scraping sound come from my rear rotors. The sound always comes from the side that the car's weight is being pushed on to in a turn (so if its a left turn, the right side will scrape, and vice versa). Thinking that it was time to replace my rotors anyway because they were badly worn as well as my front rotors making a bad grinding noise when braking hard, I got myself a set of Brembo blanks to replace all 4, along with some Axxis pads--might as well replace my brakes too while I'm in there.

Aside from the rotors not coming off easily, there were no complications in replacing the rotors. I went off to test drive, and the scraping noise that i was hearing before from the rears was so much worse. Instead of needing to make a hard fast turn, turns at 5MPH were causing it to make the scrape.

The pictures show what I found.

http://www.dyndragon.com/rotor/IMG_1599.JPG (the inner "ring", next to the groove where all that metal dust is, is what the silver streak shown above appears to be rubbing)

This rubbing is happening on both sides, but seems worse on my rear right rotor.

My question is this: Isn't the rotor not supposed to move or flex like that? It seems to me that the rotor itself is flexing or moving when pressure is put on it in a turn, and that's what's causing the rubbing. The Brembo's I got were supposed to be OE replacements, so were my original rotors just rubbed down to the point that they weren't making this noise? I did notice that the Brembo rotors' inner "ring" was raised just a tiny bit higher than my original rotors, which is definately why this problem is worse than before i replaced them.

Or do I have a suspension problem somewhere with a loose or worn bushing or something?

I'm stuck. Anyone have any ideas? ...besides bending that metal piece back with a hammer and screwdriver?

Did you replace the rattle pins?

Did you adjust the e brake shoes?

Do your wheel bearings have any play?

I have the same rotors and haven't had any problems. I can't say that I know it is from one of the things I listed above but it's all I can think of at the moment.

I have had the same problem on 2 of the 3 Subarus that I own. It seems that the dust shield migrates (bends) inward until contact is made with the "drum" portion of the rotor. I have always just bent it back with couple taps from a hammer and flat punch.
