Owners of 2001+ Legacy GTs, I would like your comment and experience on the 30000 mile service provided by your local dealer. I'm based south of Boston, if any of you have done the 30000 mile service at Norwood Subaru, please let me know.

Reading through the owner's service manual provided by Subaru, I think I can do most of the service except for the inspection of the cam shaft. However, oil change, spark plugs, air filter, tire rotation, coolant flush are all fairly easy. The fuel filter could get messy but just needs patience.

Now that we own a house, I rather spend more time working on the house (the wife says) than on the cars. I think the dealership charges between $300-$400 depending on what needs to be done. Is it worth the money? or just try to get it done myself. I know I won't get it done in a day, probably within a few weeks.

Thanks.

Ivan

well, ill talk from experience, im now at 45xxx miles on my 00 GT. i have paid the dealership every oil change, and every maintenace. its looks better, and makes me feel better, that they've done it. for one, if the car somehow goes out of service w/o oil, or water, i have someone to blame, and will be fixed.

i would pay them what they want for that serious service, i mean id rather pay 400 bucks every 2 3 yrs, than 4gs for a new engine. just think abut ur comfort level, and call the different dealers, i got 70 bucks cheaper by going to another dealer...just something to consider...my 2 cents,,,let me know thanx.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I was thinking too that I could probably do the 30,000 mile service spread over 3-4 weeks. But Spring is here, there are better things to do. I should just pay for it and get it done in one morning.

Thanks for your input. Appreciate it.

that tune up is totally worthless..... do it yourself and save 500 bucks......... when i took mine in i thought it was some huge thing but it was just a waste of money

replace the wires, plugs, and change the oil and it effectiveally does the same thing

don tlet the dealership screw you
