well, i did the search but nothing... (thanks to v.2 i-club :D )

1. is it ok to put in 5qts of oil instead of 4.8qts? I think i smell oil burning from under hood but no leak..?

2. STi hood scoop really better for cooling I/C or just cosmetic?

thanks.

you should be fine with 5 quarts. maybe you spilled some oil and its burning off or you didnt tighten you oil filter all the way.

i didnt think it'd be big deal. my dealer INSIST that i put 4.8... i hope youre right. i'll double check the filter, fumoto valve:D, etc.

has anyone seen any kind of temp reading with STi scoop vs stock?

The STi is mosly for show, unless you have an upgraded i/c such as the MRT or STi. Even if you have a front mount it's better for venting.

well, not quite the splitter...

I had my dealer do the oil change twice so far and both times they gave me back .2qt :D

I always put in 5qts. According to my dip stick 5 is just a hair under full. Maybe I gotta short stick!? ;)

5 quarts should be fine.
the sti scoop - well some people say it does give gains, some say it doesnt. i personally believe an air splitter will be better.
:D

Thanks for all your input. The reason i ask about 5qt is because I can smell oil burning from under hood, but i didnt see any leaks or spills. i thought maybe i put too much oil and somehow caused the smell. i've been putting in 5qts whenever i do the oil change.

maybe i should invest in a catch can just in case... ?

What the heck are those pics of

As for oil, just fill it until the dipstick (no, not me) says it is full.

Keep in mind that the way the Subaru designed the valve covers gaskets are prone to leaking. If yours is a GC8 then it just might be the valve cover gaskets leaking. Old_duwels car is currently doing that until we get around to changing it. You probably thought just spilled some oil onto the manifold.

Also check the gasket between the filler neck and the valve cover. Those also wear out with age and it just might be leaking from there when you put in your oil. Its a simple fix.
